argue / proxy Explanation: Just reminded of the phrase "argue for the defendant" (in which case we'd normally see "pleiten" in the Dutch in civil/criminal proceedings). "Stellen" can either be wederkerig or not (the latter case of which means "to contend"). In its reflexive form, you might could stretch this to "proxy for", given that we sometimes use "proxy" as a verb. That would imply that the lawyer is there to argue on behalf of (i.e. "proxy for") the company. |
