notering en weddenschappen Explanation: Offering odds and taking wagers (=bets) is the core business of a bookmaker. The odds refer to the price at which a bet is made (= notering). A bookmaker my offer you odds of, say, 10-1 for a given event (e.g. a certain horse winning a race), which means that if you place a bet with a stake of €1, your winnings would be €10. If you decide to accept the odds offered, the bookmaker will take your wager is another word for bet (= weddenschap). -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 22 hrs (2010-02-12 12:24:22 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Apologies for my poor word processing in the last line. Ignore the words 'is another word for bet'. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 22 hrs (2010-02-12 12:26:30 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- See also this previous question in NL-EN which demonstrates 'notering' being translated as 'odds': http://www.proz.com/kudoz/2980817 |
