Wort Seer(s)

English to Polish Art/Literary Poetry & Literature fantasy
[A category of characters in a phantasy novel. Been trying to think of a name for them that would sound good in Polish.]

The Wort Seers of Diabolos have seen a portent.’ Marduk said. ‘A veil.’ He passed the missive to Charsoc who held it gingerly with his gloved hand and carefully opened it. A thin black wisp of hemlock snaked upward. Charsoc scanned the page.

geopiet - Thanks for your input.

bazując na słowie „jasnowidz” ziołowidz
czarnowidz
ciemnowidz
...
?
Mariusz Jagodziński Nov 7, 2018:
@Joanna You're welcome. You can always refer to their fiery nature: ognisty, piekielny, płomienny etc., say profeci ognia. Good luck!
Joanna Fabiola Janiszewska (asker) Nov 7, 2018:
Thanks Mariusz. I'll consider your idea.

As for pre/postmodifiers I was thinking more along the lines of stressing their area of expertise which seems to be what the author wanted to point to. I'm considering making them Jasnowidze/Profeci/Wróżbici Zielni, maybe.

The wickedness of all that is connected to the dark side of the force in this book is described and stressed so much that I try to avoid adding any extra "mrok" :)
Mariusz Jagodziński Nov 7, 2018:
@Joanna In that case I stand by my initial decision. You can use a premodifier (plugawy, podły, nikczemny etc.) or postmodifier (zagłady, bólu, cierpienia) to profeta to highlight their wicked intentions if you feel that's necessary. It's your call :)
Joanna Fabiola Janiszewska (asker) Nov 7, 2018:
Mariusz Jagodziński - Well, yes they are devilish creatures, definitely not human. The question about how they foresee future doesn't really have a clear answer. Their appearance or their practices are not described in any detail. They are simply one of the groups in what is called the Dread Councils of Hell and are mentioned on several occasions as a source of intel. The vibe is that they are skilled at using plants and poisons. It's implied in the English name (wort as a reference to herbacious plants) and the mention of hemlock in the letter.

geopiet - I wouldn't say they were the lowest rank. They are listed as part of the Dread Councils.
geopiet Nov 7, 2018:
it seems they are the lowest rank of the Fallen ..
Mariusz Jagodziński Nov 6, 2018:
Appearance I'd appreciate some more information on their looks and behaviour. I assume they're devilish creatures and their name should reflect that, right? Are they human? How do they forsee the future?

profeta/profeci

Until I get some more context this is my call. This word is rarely used so it has some mysterious ring to it.

Profeta: osoba, która przepowiada przyszłe zdarzenia
