Veja a definição: Na terminologia musical, tempo é o nome dado à pulsação básica subjacente de uma composição musical qualquer. Cada “clique” do metrônomo corresponde a um tempo. Os tempos se agrupam em valores iguais e fixam-se dentro de divisões das pautas musicais conhecidas como compassos.

Os tempos, em música, estão diretamente relacionados com a pulsação da música, e não ao som em si; por esse motivo, uma pausa temporal numa partitura também possui a sensação e o valor de duração de tempo e, por isso, é considerada um tempo, ou parte da unidade do tempo.
