"talking to their pocket"in verdiğiniz örnekte negatif bir anlama sahip olmadığını düşünüyorum. Görür görmez Leonard Cohen'in Everybody Knows'unu hatırladım, google da yanıltmadı beni:

"Everybody Talking to Their Pockets, Everybody Wants a Box of Chocolates and a Long Stemmed Rose"

"Cebi ile konuşan herkes
bir kutu çikolata
ve uzun saplı bir gül ister"

daha çok alaattin'in sihirli lambasına gönderme yapıyor gibi, yani, "insan cüzdanı/cebi ile konuşsaydı ondan ne isterdi" gibi anladım ben.
