English term
public health center
English
Medical
Medical (general)
Hello everyone,
· Identifies specific agencies where victims or witnesses of domestic violence may report the occurrence, such as nearest police station, public health center or district court. (Chapter II, Article 9)
http://www.coe.int/t/dghl/standardsetting/violence/Albanian ...
1. In the occurrence of a domestic violence act, the victim may address a request to the
nearest police unit (to their residence or wherever they are), to their local government
unit (municipality, commune), to **public health centre** in their residence or wherever
they are situated or file a petition at the district court of their permanent or temporary
residence or that of the perpetrator, to take the necessary measures.
Does "public" imply state-owned (i.e. not private) or does "public" refer to "health", not to "center"?
Thank you.

..."The Albanian healthcare system is predominately public, centralized and rigidly structured. The State is the major provider of health services, health promotion, prevention, diagnosis and treatments for the citizens. The system often has difficulties in meeting the healthcare needs and requirements of patients. New technologies and developments in medicine are often not available to medical professionals and staff in Albania, especially for those outside the capital..."

Just a note about Donna's response below. I think she may be thinking of the government health department with branches set up in hospitals to control infectious diseases if a country-wide inoculation campaign is required quickly. See under the first link above on left side "public health" but here I certainly think that these are just health centres where a variety of services are offered, including "normal" inoculation. In any case , both are run by the government Health Department

A center for "public health"
Many types of health-care centers can be run by the government. But in this case, this is a center devoted to the field of "public health", which includes vaccinations, hygiene, care of infants and small children, issues relating to contraception and sexually-transmitted diseases, domestic violence, etc.

: Called in English "Health Centre". If you actually looked at the links I posted you'd see you're just giving the same answer but wrong term. What is a "health centre" if not for public health?

"Public Health" is a specific sub-field in the area of health care. It is a specialty field for nurses and doctors. I am not using the same answer but wrong term. Health centers can be for other care, such a seeing a GP. Definitely NOT the same.
