French term

ceinture de sécurité du type « 3 embarqués »

French to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
Obviously a type of seatbelt.
I guess a 3-point seatbelt of some kind. I'm just confused as to what information "embarque" adds. Does have anything to do with "static vs. retractable" belts?

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com May 20, 2004:
central seat belt (type third passenger) The "3" can't refer to the fact that it's the third belt on the back bench as the seat belt in question is in the driver's seat (mmmmmm maybe I ought to have mentioned this sooner).
Also the quotation marks are definitely around "3 embarques" rather than "type 3 embarques" which would support your reading.

Thanks

type 3 "built-in" seat-belts

"embarqué" corresponds to "built-in" or integrated seat belts, and apparently there are type 1,2,and 3 seat-belts. I can't find an example of all that put together in one phrase.

1st site below "Will not fit trucks with integrated (built-in) seat belts"

2nd site describes "integrated seat-belt systems".

Carruthers seems to be on the right track :

Eg \" integrated 3-point seat belt\" http://www.hobostrom.com/en/news/newsdetail.asp?id=18

Thanks for the feedback
agree Carruthers (X) : maybe "integrally-fitted 3 point seatbelt", the "type 3" refers to the 3 anchor points (1 for the lap, 1 for the sash and 1 for the catch)

Type 3 seems to involve a refinement of lap and sash configuration. But it looks as if we're getting somewhere

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "WOW! You guys really went to town on this one. There are times like this when I really wish I could give points to more than one person, but as I have to pick, I think the crown has to go to Peter who was pretty much dead on from the beginning and still went to great lengths to refine the answer to a greater degree still. My heartfelt thanks goes to all contributors."

central seat belt (type third passenger)

I have never heard of "type 3 embarqués". I am guessing that it might be the middle belt without a shoulder strap.

3-point seatbelt

you can have a 5-point seatbelt on children's car seats. without any more context this is hard to expand upon.

knowing it\'s the driver\'s seat, then your three points are clear: the part that comes across your lap, the part over your shoulder and the clip part.

(type-3 ?)integral seat belt

Definitely "integral". Don't know what a "type 3" belt is, so am uncertain how to fit in the 3, unless it is an integral 3-point belt.

Safety seats with integral seat belts.
You don’t just sit comfortably, you’re also well protected: The safety seats with integral seat belts comprise a modular metal structure. The headrests are integral elements of the safety seats and are always in place to offer maximum protection.

(with diagrams clearly showing seat belts attached to the structure of the seat)

However the French (translation) for this is:

Sièges intégraux de sécurité.
Dotés d'une structure métallique modulaire en tôle d'acier, ils vous offrent non seulement un confort parfait mais aussi une protection optimale. Les appuis-tête sont intégrés aux sièges et par conséquent toujours dans la bonne position.

Loads of hits with "integral seat belts", for the Smart and for buses (where there is really nowhere else to attach belts other than the seats themselves)

Seat Belt Harness

Three straps, two of which come over the shoulders and one come up between the legs. For racing applications. THey join at a central point on the chest and lock into a common latch. Slap the latch and all three points (anchors) are released. WIthout more context this is what I think you're talking about.
