French term

Cadran

French to English Tech/Engineering Computers (general)
This appears in the specifications for an application to be used to make various declarations.

The full sentence:
"Une déclaration peut être considérée comme étant un ensemble de cadrans, un cadran est un ensemble de champs linéaires ou un tableau contenant un nombre limité de colonnes."

I have screen, face, dial...non seem to fit in this context. Any thoughts?

Discussion

Lorraine Dubuc Dec 11, 2013:
Et si cadran était remplacé par 'option' ?
claude-andrew Dec 11, 2013:
Suggestions (not a specialist in the field) Two ideas:
1) frame
2) Omit it.
Ronnie J Rigdon Dec 11, 2013:
Tally? I can't find "cadran" but I found "cadrer" which can mean "to tally", which seems to fit the context. Perhaps it's a neologism or simply misspelled?
Didier Fourcot Dec 11, 2013:
Quadrants? Mispelling for a part of screen separated by vertical and horizontal lines? This could fit with the idea to fit tables with lines and columns in them?
Lorraine Dubuc Dec 11, 2013:
Si c'est pris au sens figuré: 'a declaration can be viewed as a control panel, each gauge representing a group of linear fields or a table with a limited number of columns'
DLyons Dec 11, 2013:
Dashboard maybe. Popular in certain business process applications.
Lorraine Dubuc Dec 11, 2013:
Normally in technical texts 'cadran' is translated by 'gauge' but in the present sentence it is not likely to be the case.

Picker

I think this refers to the part of the app that allows people to choose from various options. Picker is the term used, e.g. date-picker, colour-picker, font-picker, etc.
