kerb race, haunching

"Calage" implies it is not as liquid or potentially as strong as what is generally meant by "bedding mortar.

kerb raise, k. race - a narrow ridge of semi-dry concrete, usually 15 cm or more thick, on which kerbs are bedded
[Scott/Penguin DIct of Civ. Eng.]

kerb, curb (1) a low fender or buffer to separate a road from a walkway, usually of precast concrete supported by HAUNCHING of dry lean concrete.
haunching - Concrete beside a drain pipe or behind a road kerb to hold it in place. It may goe on top of the bedding and hace a sloping top, but it is not a full surround.
