dichromated zinc-coated

Two phases.
1) You coat your metal with zinc, by whatever process.
2) To enhance the level of protection afforded by the zinc, you put (brush???, spray???) a thin coating of dichromate over the top.

So it's two things, two different operations. I would not be surprised if "dichromated" were not sufficient in itself, since the point is that it builds on the beneficial effect of zinc. I don't know that dichromating steel directly would do any real good.

Actually it looks as if the consecrated expression might be "zinc dichromated" or "zinc dichromate coated" :

I further appears the dichromate is applied by "quenching" or "washing":

Passivation Galvanized items are quenched in a weak sodium dichromate solution to passivated the fresh galvanized surface and allow it time to develop its protective oxide layer.

French term (edited): zingué bichromaté

dichromate zinc-plated

This answer is readily found with even the most elementary of Internet searches.

Although it is not used in FR, I would stronlgy recommend retaining the '-plated' in EN (corresponds in fact to the past participle in the FR)

Bourth is correct in pointing out that it is zinc plating that is then dichromated; I have occasionally seen 'dichromated zinc plated', which is more accurate, but doesn't seem to be as popular.

neutral Bourth (X) : "Di-" is certainly what I have in my notes for "bi-", not that the cap fits. However, it's a coating (thin), not a plating, and is applied over a zinc protection coat whose degree of protection it enhances.

Both do exist, but di- seems a lot more widespread than bi-; I think the base coating is zinc plating, dichromated afterwards.

zinc plated OR galvanised and passivated

the passivation process is one where the articles are dipped in the solution, giving a yellowish colour, unless stipulated to be "clear" passivated to the finished product. More usually applicable to zinc or cadmium plating rather than galvanising.
