French term

bouche d'extraction

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial
I think this refers to an extractor hood (like the ones used in kitchens to get rid of fumes from cooking, etc.), but I'm not 100% sure. Any suggestions wuold be very welcome. It appears as follows in my text:

Avant tout essai aéraulique d’une bouche d’extraction, on procédera à six démontages et remontages de toutes les parties amovibles de la bouche dont le démontage est nécessaire pour entretien.

exhaust vent

I believe 'exhaust' would be more common than 'extraction' in HVAC systems.

The French term 'bouche d'extraction' is apparently used in ventilation systems (VMC - ventilation mécanique contrôlée). See http://www.nather.fr/pdf/PDF_AVIS_TECH_ET_CETIAT/ESSAI_CETIA...
Example sentence:

Kitchens and bathrooms typically have mechanical exhaust to control odors and sometimes humidity. Factors in the design of such systems include the flow rate (which is a function of the fan speed and exhaust vent size) and noise level.

agree Bourth (X) : "Exhaust opening" says REHVA for "bouche d'air extrait".

neutral Tony M : My only reservation is that I would tend to understand 'exhaust vent' as the opening where the stale air is discharged to the outside world, rather than the 'suction intake' where it is extracted / cf Bourth's def.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I am grateful to all 3 contributors, but in the end I went with exhaust vent, so the points go to you, Andy. I found Tony's comments very useful too, however, especially since I might have been tempted to look at the thing as a unit oterhwiser, rather than a vent."

extract vent

I don't think it is an actual cooker hood (that's a 'hotte') — though it would be a great help if you told us what context this is in!

Usually, a 'bouche' is simply the grille or whatever that forms the opening of a ventilation duct. the eaxct term you need will almost certainly depend on the type of installation involved (context) — it might be some kind of 'nozzle', for example...

And this would seem to be borne out by the last part of your text, where they talk about these things needing to be removed for cleaning.

neutral Tony M : I'm not convinced that 'bouche' implies anything so sophisticated as a 'unit' / Not 'big', no... but 'unit' kind of implies a certain level of complexity, which 'bouche' does not...

Oh well, I don't have time for more research I am afraid :-) I think "unit" could cover a multitude of sins, it doesn't have to be big you know.
