French term

AK

French to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) Brokerage
The full context here is the following security broker's advice: "A suivre demain et cette semaine: IPO, OPA, AK, suspensions...".
My concern is only for "AK" which is probably in English (owing to the "K"). I have looked around but found nothing else apart from "capital increase" which would fit in with the context, but where do the initials come from? Or do I have it wrong?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

@Peter In the model it can be a change in either direction. But as used in company finances a company would only look for an increase. I don't know what the jargon for a transfer would be but they wouldn't use AK.
Peter LEGUIE (asker) Jan 30, 2016:
DLyons Thank you very much for your extensive research. But does this mean any "change" in capital (possibly a transfer or a reduction) or only an "increase"?

Roy Put your suggestion in the answer box, please.

Wolf Yes, up with the workers!
Wolf Draeger Jan 29, 2016:
You have it right I think Roy is spot on with augmentation de capital = *capital increase* or *seasoned/secondary equity offering*, which, as you say, makes sense in the context of IPOs and takeover bids.

Maybe capital is spelt with a K to stick to Marx? Those saucy traders ;-)
Roy vd Heijden Jan 29, 2016:
A comme Aktien ; AK comme Aktienkapital(erhohung)?
Peter LEGUIE (asker) Jan 29, 2016:
Phil I do my best but there was not much more to mention here. I feel that our friend, Roy van den Heijden, has it right, this term fits in well with the context I have, but then why is it a "K"? Who can tell, but it does not really matter.
In any case, I really appreciate your help.
Roy vd Heijden Jan 29, 2016:
K comme das Kapital

Peter Please provide better context with your questions. What is this "advice"? What does it say before and after this? Thanks.

change in capital

I think it probably derives from the production function in the "AK model" which traces back to Wicksell's 1893 "O hodnotě, kapitálu a rentě". So arguably it's a Swedish word :-) Wicksell was anti-Marx and his ideas on capital might be traced back through David Ricardo to Adam Smith's "The Wealth of Nations" i.e. English rather than German.

Oddly enough, Wicksell did work on the Austrian School (specifically Böhm-Bawerk who was a proponent of Carl Menger's "Grundsätze der Volkswirtschaftslehre"). That school was largely non-mathematical, although simultaneous equations were at least implicit, but they tended to use "w" for Wert rather than "k" for Kapital - e.g. Menger "die Bestimmung des wirklichen Wert Maßes" (searching for Kapital in https://books.google.ie/books?id=aDTuAgAAQBAJ gives no hits but many for Werth).

That comment isn't actually well-founded - I've totally ignored Kapital und Kapitalzins of 1884 and Positive Theorie des Kapitals of 1889.
