Before anyone comes up with 'fruity', let me just say that I have heard of fruity wine and many other things, but not 'fruity' butter.

Any ideas?

@writeaway thanks for your message. I don't think its all that important. I was able to change the glossary entry. I'm sure Nikki won't mind. The important thing is that people have the whole picture and that they don't blidly pick the word that was chosen automatically. I often say this, I know, but what works in one situation may not work in another, so all the answers are important.

Weird I wasn't notified at all. I thought that askers received several notifications to close the question before the robot kicked in. Maybe you can submit a support request to get it changed to your own decision.

This question closed automatically during the holiday period and I can do nothing about it. However, I ended up using 'full of flavour'. Thanks for this brainstorming session and especially to Nikki, whose answer I would have chosen.

C'est un aliment riche en phosphore, en calcium, en potassium et en protéines. Sa période de dégustation optimale s'étale de juillet à septembre après un affinage de 8 à 12 mois, mais il est aussi excellent de juin à décembre. Les comtés fabriqués à partir de lait produit en hiver seront plus secs et plus forts que ceux produits à partir de lait produit au printemps, où le lait est plus gras et plus fruité. Cela dépend de l'alimentation des vaches : du foin en hiver, de l'herbe et des fleurs variées au printemps

I don't think you should be telling the author what they should or shouldn't say. They've deliberately chosen this word, and it has an exact English equivalent. I agree with Victoria's suggestion.

Never heard of "beurre fruité" either... And I'm not sure you're going to be able to get away without using "fruity" at all - but maybe at one remove: with a (mildly) fruity flavour?

if a wine or oil is fruité, it's not going to be bland. imo tasty may work but it's just a suggestion.

This term has always puzzled me, particularly when it turns up on cheese (comté fruité), where I'm not inclined to look for fruit flavors. Sometimes wine, etc is described as "bright," when it has a kind of fresh, young flavor. Could that be applied to butter as well? Is it grass-fed? Maybe you could go off the deep end and describe it as "meadow fresh"...

agree Jocelyne Cuenin : the idea of fresh fruit is definitely in fruité. mchd l'explique bien dans la discussion. Par ex. les fleurs de pissenlit dans les prés au printemps vont donner un beurre un peu différent.

sweet-flavoured, flavoursome and summery

If you really can't go with fruity butter, and I'm with you on that one, it you are going to be faithful to the original, then you could get quite close with sweet-flavoured, - tasting, or even something more evocative than taste related with "summery". Not easy to avoid images of the "famille Ricoré" and "Belle des Champs" on this one! Wondered how you are deailng with buttercups in the butter, by the way.

Maybe the good old trick of checking for original language définitions and synonyms will lead to something?

From what you say Miranda, this would be OTT :

and you reckon it's more along the lines of :

It is a logical adjective with wine and olive oil, but I start to lose the plot when it describes cheese butter. After all, cows don't grow on trees and fruits don't say "meuh".

Oui, c'est toute la difficulté ici. C'est un emploi du terme qui suggère douceur etc.
