Discussion

Sue Davis May 3, 2020:
having done more research I think Michael is right
Sue Davis May 3, 2020:
This ref - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15154577 - also indicates that psoas abscess is a rare complication of Crohn's Disease which can lead to ileocolic resection/anastomosis rather than the other way round.
Sue Davis May 3, 2020:
@everyone. It may well be continuity of psoas, that was my first thought of course, but a) I have come across this sort of phrasal sructure before and b) continuity is often used in connection with the GI tract eg http://www.uphs.upenn.edu/surgery/education/PEBLR/Nov_2019/i...
perhaps Joanna should check with the agency/client?
Anne Schulz May 3, 2020:
What I meant is actually, couldn't this be a somewhat unusual way to describe an abscess which developed at the anastomosis/intestines and then spread to the underlying psoas muscle per continuitatem (direct spread, as opposed to hematogenous spread of infection).
mrrafe May 3, 2020:
sorry Sue, yes, I see, I misunderstood the source text.
Drmanu49 May 3, 2020:
Disagree with Sue's "of the GI tract". It is "of the psoas". Check Michael's note.
liz askew May 3, 2020:
Yes, an important point to make, Sue.
Sue Davis May 3, 2020:
@mrrafe I agree in principle that answerers should just translate the part requested. I have however translated the whole phrase for the purpose of clarification - as I have indicated, I think here "continuity" refers to continuity of the GI tract, not continuity of psoas.
mrrafe May 2, 2020:
verbatim I too agree with Anne except that I was translating only the portion requested by Asker. Otherwise people criticize. But I did put the entire meaning into the "Explanation" section.
liz askew May 2, 2020:
I agree with Anne
joanna menda (asker) May 2, 2020:
@Sue, This text is about Crohn's Disease and it's an "ileocolonic anastomosis" and the patient also has "psoas abscesses"
Anne Schulz May 2, 2020:
Isn't it "atteinte de continuité" rather than "continuité du psoas"?
Sue Davis May 2, 2020:
@Joanna what is the anastomosis referred to here? this may give a clue

continuity of (the) psoas

Attenuation/impaiment of continuity of psoas. Psoas is part of iliopsoas. "The iliopsoas (/ˌɪlioʊˈsoʊ.əs/) refers to the joined psoas and the iliacus muscles. The two muscles are separate in the abdomen, but usually merge in the thigh. As such, they are usually given the common name iliopsoas. The iliopsoas muscle joins to the femur at the lesser trochanter. It acts as the strongest flexor of the hip." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iliopsoas
