Train/track interface
Hello
Train/track was David Sirett's suggestion and I did invite him to post it but he seems to be "unavailable" at present (so credit to him in part)
"Interface" is mine as it is not necessarily the entire control system that is kaput.
So I've taken the liberty of posting half a suggestion from someone else and half mine so that the asker has this final combined suggestion up in the list of suggestions.
I hope everyone is okay with this.

Failure of the ground/machine automatic control system
This is related to the KVB feature - automatic speed control using "beacons", aka speed-recording devices installed along the route on the ground.
Failure to control the train speed using the ground-installed beacons.
