German term
Gleitdrehstauchung
German to English
Science
Physics
symmetry operations and crystallography
With no expertise in the field, I think the translation should be "glide rotation contraction", but I can't find either this or the German term on the web.
I work in architecture - the author has extended the term to refer to architectural/design structures. I'm not a scientist.
Abschluß eines barocken Chorgestühls mit einer Schnecke, einer »Gleitdrehstauchung«.
Require informed answer please.

Slipturn coupling.
A "Stauche" is also a "socket" or "coupling sleeve". It's a guess. Good luck.

There are a number of references at google.de for "Drehstauchung" that refer to multiplications of complex numbers (i.e., mathematics). I haven't tracked down the English equivalent. As for the "Gleit-" part, the writer seems to think about a continuous variant of what is shown at the link I gave above, and the composite word may be his/her creation.
