German term or phrase: Umwegrentabilität
I've come up against "Umwegrentabilität" in connection with the Festspielhaus in Bregenz:

According to Duden, Umwegrentabilität means "mit einem Projekt verbundene indirekte Einnahmen." The translation most online dictionaries seem to prefer is "detour profitability", but that sounds too much like a direct translation to me. I've also seen "positive knock-on effects" which looks better. Does anyone know what it is really called in English?

English translation:multiplier effect
Explanation:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/multiplier effect
An effect in economics in which an increase in spending produces an increase in national income and consumption greater than the initial amount spent. For example, if a corporation builds a factory, it will employ construction workers and their suppliers as well as those who work in the factory. Indirectly, the new factory will stimulate employment in laundries, restaurants, and service industries in the factory's vicinity.
