処理系

English translation: an implementation (of a programming language)

Japanese term or phrase: 処理系
This term comes up a lot. I am wondering if "JavaScript 処理系" should be "JavaScript engine"... But other places it seems that "processor" or "system" would be more appropriate. Has anyone else come across this term?

That's what it is, generally, and it is developed to become a complier and/or an interpreter. Javascript does not require a compiler, and so JavaScript 処理系 could be either a JS interpreter or JS implementation. However, judging from the other uses of 処理系, I assume the author meant to say "implementation" here, consistently.
