Law/Patents - Law (general) / Police document
Japanese term or phrase:
I've been translating some police documents, one is a 供述調書 and the other is a 弁解録取書 On theupper right corner of the first page of the first document, there's a (甲) and a (丙) on the rest. The first page of the second document has an (乙) and a (丙) on the rest, same as the first. Now these ancient counting characters are used to define "primary-secondary-tertiary" etc. and on law documents 甲 stands for the plaintiff and 乙 is used for the accused, I know that. But I cannot fathom the usage on these documents. The usage of (丙) right after (甲), omitting (乙) got me puzzled at first, but after seeing (乙) on the other made me think that it was no page ordering or anything. But yet again I cannot be sure why (丙) is used. It's not about the content, because the second page is following what's written at the first. Well, actually first page is where the explanations (you have the right to remain silent, this statement is recorded with the assistance of an interpreter, etc, etc) end, I can just think about this content-wise.

Long story short, can anyone explain what 丙 means on these types of documents? I have some idea about 甲 and 乙 learned from a Japanese, but a help on these other two characters are also appreciated.

Explanation:
If the letter appears within brackets, it signifies the type(or style) of form. 弁解録取書 having (乙)means that the suspect's apologetical statement was recorded in form B(乙)of 弁解録取書. 供述書 form A(甲)is to be used to record testimony of suspect. Only example of form C(丙)I know is the investigation report made by the immigration officer. They produce both (甲)+ (丙) and (乙)+(丙).

The third party

Explanation:
Ko, Otsu, and Hei can be used as A, B and C.
http://ejje.weblio.jp/content/甲乙丙

Since Ko is Praintiff, Otsu is Defendant, C is Third party.
This may depend on the content of the sentence.

Asker: It seems that it's not the matter of plaintiff or defendant as said on the note. But thank you very much for your answer.

Notes to answerer
Asker: This was the answer I thought about. The pages with 丙 included what happened. I see that the characters are combined as the integral part of both forms respextively. Still tricky to translate though, we don't have such categorization for documents in my country. I'll have trouble finding an equivalent 定訳, well 仕方がないですね. Thank you very much!

agree  humbird: 甲乙丙 are a numbering or ranking or classifying system when listing things. Albeit a bit archaic, in legal document it is quite common.
