Explanation: You can look up 運命を共にする in the dictionary to find "be in the same boat", "share the same / a common destiny", "put one's fate with", "join fortunes with" and so on. Be in the same boat might be fine, or somewhat neutral "go all the way with" is ok as well, but taking into the (un)willingness and power of women under the circumstances, I came up with this translation with a twist. "Women were forced to leave their fate in the hands of the government / nation..." |
