Tacking: a mortgagee/mortgage lender can add together advances on the *same* property and move up the queue of creditors.

Consolidation: a mortgagee with mortgages regd. on *different* mortgagor/borrower properties can pool them and demand simultaneous pay-off.

  -> Thx - post (de)grading!//Advancement connotes to me an advance made on account of an inheritance and brought into 'hotchpot' on intestacy, but I'll have to invest in Cappelen to fathom that incongruous translation.
