Portuguese term

Ds.

Portuguese to English Medical Medical (general)
In a large table that gives the "reference values" for figures obtained from blood tests, I have the abbreviation "Ds." used over and over:
Ds. Metodo
Ds. Producto
Ds. Material de Analise
Ds. Texto
Ds. Valor

I am guessing "dados", but it seems entirely superfluous in every case. If it means that, why not just leave it off?

Perhaps someone has a better idea.

Thanks ahead of time.

Marjolein Snippe Mar 27, 2018:
description? Descrição perhaps? Still superfluous though...
Mario Freitas Mar 27, 2018:
Not diagnosis With this additional context, I realize it's likely not diagnosis either.
Alan Lambson (asker) Mar 27, 2018:
Here is a fuller context. Sorry I could not preserve the format.

Ds. Exame: ÁCIDO ÚRICO Material: SANGUE Nm. Setor: AUTOMAÇÃO

1 mg /dl Ativo s
Variaveis: Ativo Ds. Metodo Nm. Equipamento Ds. Produto Ds. Material de Analise
S Enzimatico colorimétrico automatzi ado MODULAR 1 SORO
Valor Referência :
1 Ds. Texto
Mulheres : Ds. Valor
2.4 a 5.7 mg/dl Sexo. Val.Mín.
F Val.Máx. Cd. Unidade Idade Mín. Idade Máx.
Homens : 3.4 a 7,0 mg/dl M
Mario Freitas Mar 27, 2018:
Ds. The abbreviation is "Ds", capital D, small s, period. This means, it stands for a single term or word. If it were Data Supra, it would have to be DS or D.S.
Diagnosis or diagnose fits well with all other terms. Check it up.

I checked another forum and the agreed upon answer was Data Supra. I don't know but I'm throwing it out there
Giovanna Ramalho Mar 26, 2018:
Omitting this term does not seem to impact the meaning. You could consider doing it, I guess.
Alan Lambson (asker) Mar 26, 2018:
Thanks! In the context, it could not be standard deviation. For example, Ds. Material de Analise is followed by: SORO. More likely, it means "Description" or something like that. But it is entirely unnecessary. I am considering just omitting it: Ds. Metodo - Method, Ds. Material de Analise - Material (or substance) analyzed, etc. What do you think?
Giovanna Ramalho Mar 26, 2018:
It seems that Ds. could mean "Descrição" (description). What do you think?

Standard deviation

I'm not positive but here's a link and my best guess is standard deviation

Hmmmm, I found this here

I think the answer givingbitcas a standard repitition makes sense in the context. At least, it's my best guess. I have a dictionary of medical abbreviations to check still. I agree that it's likely not all that important.still, I'm going to check that dictionary
Example sentence:

O desvio standard é .5 mg

Peer comment(s):

neutral Mario Freitas : Standard deviation in PT is DP = desvio padrão.

That's what makes sense to me. The dictionary had it as desvio standard but desvio padrão sounds more correct to me
