Elements of Financial Calculus Explanation: I am afraid this title calls for a greater degree of precision in translation. “Cálculo” is often used to mean “calculation,” but it appears to me (and I may be assuming too much), that what is meant here is “calculus.” Financial calculus is a very specific (and arcane) area of financial mathematics that deals with something called derivative pricing. Books, seminars, and software packages are devoted to it. The most celebrated book on the topic is “Financial Calculus: An Introduction to Derivative Pricing,” by Martin Baxter and Andrew Rennie,1997. Here is a review of the book: http://www.arkanar.com.by/31/Financial_Calculus_Introduction... “Financial Calculus: An Introduction to Derivative Pricing Book Description Here is the first rigorous and accessible account of the mathematics behind the pricing, construction and hedging of derivative securities.” In fact, there is a whole web site on the topic: http://www.financial calculus.co.uk Other material written about the topic (and the aforementioned book) can be found in the following citations: http://www.ercim.org/publication/Ercim_News/enw38/palmgren.h... “The assumption of no arbitrage has been fruitful for the area of stochastic financial calculus, including models for derivative instruments. These models are used in pricing and are put to the test there.” http://www.nada.kth.se/~karlm/FrontCapitalTalk.html “Much trading software relies on precise mathematical models from financial calculus and statistics (see for example Baxter and Rennie [1997]). Furthermore, packages often integrate standard numerical routines such as Monte Carlo and Finite Elements.” If you feel that this degree of precision is not warranted here, and that what is meant is “calculation” in general, then you can translate the title: “Elements of Financial Calculation” or “Elements of Financial Computation.” It is very tempting to reach out to the outer limits of interpretive liberty. If yu do so, you can come up with such translations as: “Elements of Financial Mathematics” or “Elements of Financial Analysis.” I personally feel that, at least in this case, I would follow a more conservative approach, even at the risk of sounding “literal.” Fuad See citations above |

Elements of Financial Accounting Explanation: Accounting rather than Calculation as this appears to be more about the function than the mechanics |
