Spanish term

culo veo, culo quiero

Gracias, Anne.

Monica Colangelo Jan 6, 2012:

Hi Anne:
I know you were looking for a alternate expression, but I do think that this is the closest equivalent in English barring any better suggestions from our peers
Cheers,
eski :)).

If one sheep puts his head through the gap, the rest will follow.

It seems to me that an essential aspect of the refrán is that of copying behaviour.

"monkey see, monkey do" is just to mimic or imitate someone's BEHAVIOUR and actions...not to actually WANT stuff.

agree DLyons : Although the 9th seems closer to the actual text :-) I hadn't realized there were various numbering systems! According to the Christian Brothers, the 9th was " thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife."

peer-driven / street cred

something incorporating this idea ? I can't come up with a neat phrase and this is more of a marketing definition but these profiles are dictated by what they see around them (ultimately meaning they jump on the bandwagon)

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

It depends on your context, but when I Googled the two sayings together I was surprised at the number of matches that cropped up.
