Swedish term

representation

Swedish to English Bus/Financial Education / Pedagogy
I am looking for an alternative term for representation other than entertainment. In a business context, entertainment is a good translation for representation, however in an academic setting, "entertainment" could have so many ambiguous meanings that I don't think it appropriate here.

If a professor takes a colleague from another university out to dinner, I don't think he'd write "entertainment expense" on the claim for reimbursement. Although "hospitality" (or official hospitality) is a possibility, is there another term that might work in the non-profit (eg NGO) sector?

Representation is sometimes translated to "representation" - however to me that sounds like a sound-alike non-translation.

Discussion

m_a_a_ Oct 28, 2020:
courtesy or "business courtesy"
representation could be claimed to encompass both gifts and hospitality
SafeTex Oct 26, 2020:
@ charles "Hospitality" was already trotting through my head before I even got to it in your question but if there is one other alternative, it's "courtesy" as in "courtesy expenses" (can be found on the internet)
Christopher Schröder Oct 26, 2020:
I see nothing wrong with entertainment in this context

hospitality

My alma mater thinks you should use ”hospitality” and save the ”entertainment” for tickets to watch the performing arts.
Example sentence:

Employees who incur or approve expenses for hospitality, alcoholic beverages, entertainment, and other special expenses must exercise prudent judgment to ensure that the expenses are for legitimate University business[.]

I think so too!
