Experience
Years of experience: 25. Registered at ProZ.com: Nov 2005.
I have a university diploma in Spanish and further university qualifications in English and theoretical and applied linguistics. The practical and theoretical aspects of translation was dealt with as a part of all of these courses.
I have over ten years of experience of teaching languages in several countries, and, as I am multilingual, I have had plenty of use of my translation skills in creating materials and delivering courses. Having worked and studied in all of the relevant countries (Sweden, the UK, Spain and the Czech Republic) I also have an in-depth knowledge of the cultural context of the languages, which is very important in translating.
Most of my ten years as a language teacher, I have been giving classes over the net, and I am currently studying for an HNC in Computing and IT at the university of the Highlands and Islands in Scotland. Thus I have very good IT skills, which also is essential for a translator today.
During the years I have also assisted my informal network of friends, acquaintances and colleagues with translations and some interpreting.
As a language teacher, I have experimented with recording videos of my lessons and subtitling them, and thus have a basic understanding of this area.
