Russian to English: Google
Bilbo Innovations.
Translation - English Google is opening a research center in Moscow.
Translated by Yana Jester [email protected]
Google will be opening its own center for development and research in Moscow. It is probable that the Google associates will adapt software products specific to the local demographics. In addition, they will be actively working in marketing.
“The launch of the research and development center will be the first serious step in a large scale program of investing in the Russian market. The opening of the center in Moscow is due to its geographical closeness to a recently opened representative office,” a competent source of CNews commented. This source declined to make known the volume of planned investments or the exact location of the future center. Notice that Vladimir Dolgov, Google’s chief representative in Moscow, declined to comment about the event.
According to the same CNews’ source, Sergey Burkov, a former Russian physicist, was appointed as head of the Center. After immigrating to the USA in 1990 based on his work as a scientist, Burkov took part in launching a series of innovative projects. He also created companies called Invincible Data Systems, Dulance, and Bilbo Innovations.
As it is now known, Google is looking for talented Russian engineers to manufacture products oriented not only for Russians, but also for the global market. However, the kind of products that will be made has not been specified.
“At this time, no one can say for sure what kind of products the Google center will be creating in Russia”, thinks IK Finam’s analyst Vladislav Kochetkov. “If we are to talk about Google’s experience in other countries such as Israel, for example, the company has already realized success in adapting software programs and is actively working in marketing there.” This will demand significant investments in Russia. In that case, however, it’s not excluded that there might be talks about creating a center for off-shore programming.”
The analyst added that Google’s presence in Russian search systems would also noticeably change the players’ position in it, not at all in favor of domestic companies. ”The situation can take a radically different turn in a year or two. It is very probable for a company with such means and capabilities to try to recruit the most qualified employees, who now work for domestic companies.”
