Source text - French L’imagerie par émission consiste à visualiser une structure anatomique ou fonctionnelle de l’organisme en y localisant un isotope radioactive susceptible d’une detection externe (Figure 24-1). En imagerie par emission, les détecteurs utilisent le principe de la scintillation solide, d’où le nom general de «scintigraphie» donnée à ce type d’imagerie.
Les images scintigraphiques sont de qualité morphologique mediocre, comparée à ce que fournissent la radiographie classique, la tomodensitométrie ou l’IRM. En revanche, l’imagerie scintigraphique tire sa puissance diagnostique de son caractère dynamique et fonctionnel: elle permet de suivre l’évolution de la répartition d’une certain substance dans l’organisme, et donc de differencier les structures anatomiques ou fonctionnelles pour lesquelles cette evolution est différente.
Traceurs et marquers
L’imagerie scintigraphique utilize des radio-pharmaceutiques constitués d’un traceur marquée par un isotope radioactive. Ces substances sont introduites dans l’organisme le plus souvent par voie veineuse, mais aussi orale ou respiratoire.
Traceurs
Une substance qui peut se localizer de façon sélective au niveau d’une structure particulière de l’organisme (il peut s’agir d’un organe, d’un secteur liquid ou d’une lesion) est appelée traceur. Le traceur peut être un element simple (iode, xenon), une molecule (albumine, pyrophosphate) ou avoir une structure plus complexe (cellules, macro-agrégats).
La presence du traceur au sein de la structure que l’on souhaite visualiser résulte:
- soit de phénomènes passifs purement physiques (blocage de macro-agrégats au niveau des capillaries pulmonaires; visualisation des cavités cardiaques au moyen d’un traceur vasculaire);
- soit de phénomènes actifs (fixation active de l’iode par la thyroïde, du pyrophosphate par les ostéoblates dans les zones de reconstruction osseuse; capitation du thallium analogue à celle du potassium par les cellules myocardiques);
- soit de phénomènes excrétoires (par exemple de nombreux traceurs sont filtrés par le rein et concentrés dans les urines, d’autres sont secretes dans le tubule renal. On peut ainsi visualiser le parenchyma renal et les voies urinaires);
- soit d’une reaction antigène – anticorps spécifique. On utilize dans ce cadre des anticorps monoclonaux marqués dirigés contre des antigènes exprimés à la surface de cellules tumorales (par exemple de cancer ovarien, digestif, médullaire thyroïdien, etc.).

În imagistica prin emisie, detectoarele utilizează principiul scintiliației în solid, de unde denumirea generală „scintigrafie” dată acestui tip de imagistică.
Imaginile scintigrafice au o calitate morfologică mediocră, în comparație cu cele furnizate de radiografia clasică, tomodensitometrie sau IRM (Imagistica prin Rezonanță Magnetică). În schimb, capacitatea imagisticii scintigrafice de a diagnostica se bazează pe caracterul său dinamic și funcțional: ea permite urmărirea evoluției repartiției unei anumite substanțe în organism, putându-se astfel diferenția structurile anatomice sau funcționale pentru care această evoluție este diferită.
Trasori și markeri
Imagistica scintigrafică folosește radiofarmaceutice constituite dintr-un trasor marcat de un izotop radioactiv. Aceste substanțe sunt introduse în organism de cele mai multe ori pe cale intravenoasă, dar și pe cale orală sau respiratorie.
Trasori
O substanță care se poate localiza de manieră selectivă la nivelul unei anumite structuri a organismului (poate fi vorba de un organ, un sector lichid sau o leziune) se numește trasor. Trasorul poate fi un element simplu (iod, xenon), o moleculă (albumină, pirofosfat) sau poate avea o structură mai complexă (celule, macroagregate).
Prezența trasorului în structura pe care dorim s-o vizualizăm rezultă:
- fie din fenomene pasive pur fizice (blocajul macroagregatelor la nivelul capilarelor pulmonare; vizualizarea cavităților cardiace cu ajutorul unui trasor vascular);
- fie din fenomene metabolice active (fixare activă a iodului de tiroidă, a pirofosfatului de către osteoblaste în zonele de reconstrucție osoasă; captarea taliului analog celei a potasiului de celulele miocardice);
- fie din fenomene excretorii (de exemplu, numeroși trasori sunt filtrați de rinichi și concentrați în urină, alții sunt secretați în tubulul renal. Putem de asemenea vizualiza parenchimul renal și căile urinare);
- fie dintr-o reacție antigen-anticorp specifică. Folosim în acest cadru anticorpi monoclonali marcați dirijați împotriva anticorpilor antigeni exprimați la suprafața celulelor tumorale (de exemplu cancer ovarian, digestiv, medular tiroidian etc.).

Abstract
Adenosine receptors (ARs) have an important role in the regulation of inflammation and their activation is involved in the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokine release.
The effects of pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMFs) on inflammation have been reported and we have demonstrated that PEMFs increased A2A and A3AR density and functionality in different cell lines.
Chondrocytes and osteoblasts are two key cell types in the skeletal system that play important role in cartilage and bone metabolism representing an interesting target to study the effect of PEMFs. The primary aim of the present study was to evaluate if PEMF exposure potentiated the anti-inflammatory effect of A2A and/or A3ARs in T/C-28a2 chondrocytes and hFOB 1.19 osteoblasts.

Résumé
Les récepteurs de l’adénosine (RA) ont un rôle important dans la régulation de l’inflammation et leur activation est impliquée dans l’inhibition de la libération des cytokines pro-inflammatoires.
Les effets des champs électromagnétiques pulsés (CEMP) sur l’inflammation ont été rapportés et nous avons démontré que les CEMPs augmentent la densité et la fonctionnalité d’A2A et d’A3AR dans différentes lignées cellulaires.
Les chondrocytes et les ostéoblastes sont deux types de cellules-clé dans le système squelettique qui jouent un rôle important dans le métabolisme de l’os et du cartilage représentant une cible intéressante pour étudier l’effet des CEMPs. Le but principal de cette étude a été d’évaluer si l’exposition aux CEMPs potentialise l’effet anti-inflammatoire d’A2A et/ou d’A3AR dans les chondrocytes de la lignée T/C-28a2 et les ostéoblastes de la lignée hFOB 1.19.

Source text - English However, here, we should note the following. In [64], the refractive index was determined from the data on the complex reflection and transmission coefficients of a thin metamaterial layer (i.e., by the indirect method [66]) in the case where the light flux was perpendicular to the substrate on which pairs of nanorods were located. Therefore, the radiation passes through the metamaterial that is not a bulk layer. This layer can be treated as “monomolecular” because a pair of nanorods is a “molecule” of the metamaterial. In this case, the losses, which can be evaluated from the
experimental data on the transmission and reflection [64, Fig. 2a] are no less than 15% in the spectral range 1.4–1.6 μm, in which the real part of the refractive index is negative. For example, the losses at a wave length of 1.5 μm are more than 30%. This means that the bulk material under consideration would be opaque and the possibility of directly measuring its refractive index seems to be problematic. This corresponds to large values of the imaginary part of the complex refractive index; for example, n ≈ –0.3 i2.7 at a wavelength of 1.5 μm [64, Fig. 3b].
Grigorenko et al. [67] fabricated systems consisting of pairs of gold “nanodots” (objects with sizes of approximately 100 nm) on a substrate and investigated their interaction with polarized light incident perpendicular to the substrate. Systems of this type also represent a monomolecular layer of the metamaterial. The authors established that these systems can have negative values of the real part of the permeability in the visible spectral range. Moreover, they can have simultaneously negative values of the real parts of the permittivity and permeability; for example, in one of the cases under consideration, these values were estimated to be Re(ε) ≈ –0.7 and Re(μ) ≈ –0.3 at some wavelength in the green range [67, p. 20]. Nonetheless, the authors noted that the negative refraction cannot be observed as a result of the large values of the
imaginary parts (Im(μ) ≈ 1i).
Translation - Romanian Trebuie să observăm totuşi aici următoarele: în [64] indicele de refacţie a fost determinat din datele de coeficienţi de reflexie şi transmisie ai unui strat subţire de metamaterial (i.e. prin metoda indirectă [66]) în cazul în care fluxul de lumină a fost perpendicular pe substratul pe care erau localizate perechile de nanotije. Prin urmare, radiaţia trece prin metamaterialul care nu este un strat bulk. Acest strat poate fi considerat “monomolecular” pentru că o pereche de nanotije este o “moleculă” de metamaterial. Source text - English Neural nets are based on the premise that naturally occurring neurons and naturally occurring nets of such neurons provide the best possible model for information processing, precisely because over untold millennia of experimentation nature had evolved it. But even if that’s how our brains generate intelligence, is such “distributed parallel processing” really the way we learn? Certainly not always:
Socrates is a man. All men are mortal. Therefore…?
….Socrates is mortal. This we conclude by logic, not by trial-and-error “convergence.” Our teachers do not simply whack us repeatedly over the knuckles with a ruler until we haplessly mouth the correct sequence of terms, in a desperate random search for surcease of pain.
Furthermore, neither Minsky nor anyone else had ever seen a pile of junk evolve itself into a thinking machine; most of it had to be created by clever human beings in the first place, whether it was constructed out of matchboxes or vacuum tubes, just as he had done. The most you could do with any actual learning machine to make it appear spontaneously intelligent is to push one level or more into the background the fact of a human designer – as we did with our nested supersets of Hexapawn. Eventually Minsky concluded that it was a foolish conceit to treat “randomly wired neural nets” as genuinely random at all: They were designed that way by people. Not seeing this fact was as deliberately self-deluding as closing one’s eyes to make the room go away.
Translation - Romanian Reţelele neuronale se bazează pe premisa că neuronii şi reţelele acestora apărute în mod natural constituie cel mai bun model posibil pentru procesarea informaţiei, tocmai pentru că natura le-a dezvoltat de-a lungul a nenumărate milenii de experimentare. Dar chiar dacă inteligenţa generată de creierele noastre apare în acest mod, să fie oare această „procesare distribuită paralel” cu adevărat modalitatea în care învăţăm? Nu totdeauna, desigur:

În realitate, maxima realizare ce poate fi obţinută cu o maşină de învăţat este să împingem existenţa creatorului uman undeva în fundal, cu unul sau mai multe niveluri. În cele din urmă, Minsky a concluzionat că era o aroganţă prostească să tratăm „reţelele neuronale cablate aleator” ca şi cum cablajul ar fi fost în mod autentic aleator: ele erau proiectate astfel de către oameni. After ten years of work in human resources consulting, in 2004 I decided to work in a field connected to my science studies.
Two were the directions I wanted to explore: science education and popularization of science. I had a passion for foreign languages, so I offered my services as translator to well known Romanian publishers. I had the chance to translate very interesting books – some written by scientists who attempted to explain major advances in their fields (e.g. theoretical physics, neuro-education or artificial intelligence) to non-scientists.
At present I work as freelance translator for a science publisher. The fields I cover include electronics, thermodynamics, quantum physics, artificial intelligence, mechanics.
