Postawy studentów wobec agresji
Zagadnienie agresji i przemocy współcześnie jest przedmiotem badań nie tylko psychologów, ale także pedagogów, fizjologów czy filozofów. Jest to problem niezwykle poważny z uwagi na jego powszechność i negatywne skutki.
Zdefiniowanie agresji jest sprawą trudną. Potocznie przez agresję rozumie się jako wrogie zachowanie, w którym wyrządzenie komuś krzywdy (szkód, bólu, strat materialnych i in.) jest głównym celem osoby zachowującej się w taki sposób.
Pojęcie agresja pochodzi z języka łacińskiego, w którym słowo „aggressia” oznacza „napaść”, a słowo „agresor” oznacza „rozbójnika”1.
Zamiennie używa się określeń: „wrogość”, „wojowniczość” lub „destruktywność”.2
Agresja jest określana „jako działanie skierowane przeciwko ludziom lub przedmiotom wywołującym u jednostki niezadowolenie lub gniew, celem agresji jest wyrządzenie krzywdy, szkody przedmiotowi agresji.”3. Najczęściej jest to działanie zamierzone, którego celem jest wyrządzenie komuś lub czemuś szkody, straty lub bólu4, powstałym z następstw frustracji5, często podejmowanym intencjonalnie6, którego nie da się społecznie usprawiedliwić”7.
Agresja łączy się z przemocą. Zachowanie, w którym ma miejsce agresja często kończy się użyciem siły fizycznej wobec drugiej, często niewinnej osoby. Przemoc obejmuje wszystkie odmiany złego traktowania. Najczęstszymi formami przemocy są: znęcanie fizyczne, znęcanie psychiczne, gwałt, groźby, wyzwiska, wypędzanie z mieszkania, napastowanie na ulicy, zmuszanie do uwłaczających posług, zmuszanie do współżycia seksualnego w obecności dzieci.8
Współcześnie można zauważyć wzrost zachowań agresywnych. Jej przyczyn dopatrywać się można w: przedłużających się nastawieniach frustracyjnych, zaburzeniach psychicznych, cechach charakterologicznych, nie pogodzeniu się z otaczającą rzeczywistością9, nadużywaniu alkoholu10 i in. Współcześnie agresja wiąże się z wyrządzaniem krzywdy innym ludziom, coraz częściej także z zabójstwem.
Przytoczone elementy stały się impulsem do przeprowadzenia badań, których celem była próba zdiagnozowania postaw studentów wobec agresji i przemocy. Przedmiotem badań były opinie wyrażane przez studentów.
Problematyka badawcza zawarta była w pytaniu: Jakie postawy wobec agresji i przemocy przejawiają studenci?
Przyjęto hipotetyczne założenia, że determinantami postaw studentów wobec agresji i przemocy są czynniki socjodemograficzne, a w szczególności: płeć, wiek i kierunek studiów.
W toku badań zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego, w ramach której wykorzystano technikę ankiety. Kwestionariusz użyty w badaniach zamieszczono w Internecie.
Badania przeprowadzono w Internecie. Badaniami objęto 153 studentów, będących obywatelami polskimi i pobierającymi edukację na polskich uczelniach wyższych, którzy wypełnili opublikowaną ankietę. Dobór próby miał charakter celowy. Warunkiem zakwalifikowania się do grupy był fakt bycia studentem dowolnego kierunku studiów. Badania przeprowadzono w styczniu 2009r.
Badania wykazały, że studenci niezależnie od płci deklarowali negatywny stosunek do agresji, co stanowi pozytywne zjawisko. Kobiety deklarowały negatywny stosunek do agresji mniej licznie niż mężczyźni. Tendencje te mogły być uwarunkowane czynnikami biologicznymi, bowiem pierwotnie mechanizm agresji służył walce obronnej i o zdobycie pożywienia, co było domeną mężczyzn.11 W słuszności wnioskowania utwierdzają deklaracje studentów na temat okoliczności usprawiedliwiających stosowanie agresji. Mężczyźni dostrzegali je głównie w manifestacji siły (91,7%). Mężczyźni też w znacznym stopniu deklarowali agresję wobec starszych członków rodziny (41,7%), wobec zwierząt (41,7%), i wobec podwładnych (50,0%). Tendencje te wyjaśnić można prawdopodobnym uznawaniem przez mężczyzn, iż wspomniane kategorie nie zagrażają ich bezpieczeństwu. Kobiety natomiast okoliczności usprawiedliwiające stosowanie agresji dostrzegały głównie w manifestacji siły (76,3%) i wobec dzieci (76,3%). Domniemywać można, że deklaracje odnoszące się do dzieci wynikały z funkcjonującego w polskim społeczeństwie stereotypu, że na kobietach spoczywa obowiązek wychowania dzieci, w związku z czym spędzają z nimi więcej czasu, co powoduje natychmiastowe reagowanie na pojawiające się sytuacje wychowawcze.12 Zastanawiające są deklaracje dotyczące manifestacji siły. Kobiety być może miały na uwadze siłę demonstrowaną przez mężczyzn. Niepokoić może połączenie dominujących alternatyw – manifestację siły wobec dzieci. O mniejszej agresywności kobiet może świadczyć fakt mniej licznego, we wszystkich kategoriach, niż w przypadku mężczyzn, dostrzegania okoliczności usprawiedliwiających stosowanie agresji.
Zweryfikować te przypuszczenia mogą deklaracje na temat stosowania agresji. Badania wykazały, że mężczyźni deklarowali stosowanie przez siebie agresji głównie w celu wywalczenia pozycji w pracy (58,3%), wobec podwładnych (50%) i wobec dzieci (41,7%). O ile stosowanie agresji w celu wywalczenia pozycji w pracy można tłumaczyć biologicznymi determinantami agresji, to stosowanie agresji wobec podwładnych i wobec dzieci budzi poważny niepokój. Mężczyźni również w znacznym stopniu deklarowali stosowanie agresji wobec współmałżonka (33,3%). Z punktu widzenia wychowawczo-społecznego budzić to może niepokój, ale jednocześnie stanowi to odzwierciedlenie funkcjonującego stereotypu – mężczyzny agresora.13 Na pozytywne podkreślenie zasługuje, iż prawie połowa mężczyzn (41,7%) zadeklarowała, że nigdy nie stosowała przemocy.
Kobiety wyraziły korzystniejsze z wychowawczo-społecznego punktu widzenia opinie. Kobiety bardziej licznie niż mężczyźni deklarowały nie stosowanie przemocy (55,3%). Kobiety też mniej licznie niż mężczyźni deklarowały stosowanie poszczególnych rodzajów agresji. Wyjątek stanowiło wskazanie przez większy odsetek kobiet niż mężczyzn stosowanie przemocy dla zamanifestowania siły (26,3%).
Kolejnych interesujących rezultatów może dostarczyć analiza wyników badań w zakresie doświadczenia agresji. Badania wykazały, że ponad połowa badanych, zaliczonych do określonej kategorii płci deklarowała, iż nie doznała agresji. Niepokój natomiast budzić mogą deklaracje pozostałych respondentów. Mężczyźni deklarowali doświadczenie agresji w charakterze ofiary głównie w celu wzmocnienia doznań seksualnych (41,7%) i w celu wywalczenia pozycji w pracy (41,7%). Kobiety natomiast wymieniały głównie wzmocnienie doznań seksualnych (42,1%). Zarówno jeden jak i drugi powód można pierwszy powód można tłumaczyć biologicznymi determinantami agresji oraz występowaniem dużej dawki sadomasochizmu w relacjach seksualnych.14
Analiza wyników badań w zakresie form agresji uznawanych przez studentów za społecznie akceptowalne w zależności od płci wykazała, że około ¾ respondentów uznała za nie podlegające akceptacji, co można ocenić pozytywnie. Studenci niezależnie od płci tak samo licznie deklarowali klapsy i krzyk (68,8%) – czyli akceptują i najprawdopodobniej stosują agresję wobec dzieci, co może niepokoić. Mężczyźni (41,7%) deklarowali bardziej licznie stosowanie wyzwisk za dopuszczalne niż kobiety (15,2%). Potwierdzać te tendencje mogą wnioskowanie w zakresie funkcjonowania stereotypu, o czym już wspomniano.
Badania wykazały, że około ¾ respondentów niezależnie od płci uznała, że współcześnie dominującymi formami agresji jest ośmieszanie i poniżanie. Na uwagę zasługuje, że mężczyźni w większym odsetku dostrzegali dominujące formy przemocy niż kobiety. Niepokoić może dostrzeganie przez respondentów tak licznych form agresji. Odnosząc te rezultaty do wcześniej wyrażonych opinii nasuwa się przypuszczenie, że mogą one występować w najbliższym otoczeniu badanych i wynikać z doświadczeń.
Analiza materiału badawczego w zależności od wieku studentów wykazała, że młodsi studenci z przedziału wiekowego do 26 lat deklarowali pozytywny stosunek do agresji bardziej licznie (6,5%) niż studenci ze „starszych” przedziałów wiekowych (1,2%). Mogło to być uwarunkowane rozprzestrzeniającą się współcześnie falą agresji, będącej domeną głównie młodych ludzi.
Wraz z wiekiem zmniejszał się odsetek studentów deklarujących okoliczności usprawiedliwiające stosowanie agresji takie jak: manifestacja siły i wywalczenie pozycji w pracy. Opinię taką wyraziło np. 87,1% studentów w wieku do 26 lat i 32,1% - powyżej 36 lat. Mogło to wynikać z dostrzegania przez respondentów spadku własnej kondycji wraz z wiekiem i dowodzić, że agresja jest symptomatyczna dla młodszych kategorii wiekowych. Respondenci starsi mogli mieć już ugruntowaną pozycję zawodową i nie musieli podejmować żadnych działań w celu jej zajęcia. Jednocześnie wraz z wiekiem zwiększał się odsetek studentów deklarujących okoliczności usprawiedliwiające stosowanie agresji wobec dzieci. Opinię taką wyraziło np. 7,1% studentów w wieku do 26 lat i 82,1% - powyżej 36 lat. Można przypuszczać, iż respondenci starsi mogli posiadać starsze dzieci, przysparzające większych trudności wychowawczych. Dlatego mogli w tym kontekście dostrzegać okoliczności usprawiedliwiające stosowanie przemocy, a być może ją podejmować.
Badania w zakresie stosowania przemocy przez studentów wykazały, że wraz z wiekiem zmniejszał się odsetek studentów deklarujących stosowanie agresji dla zamanifestowania siły. Opinię taką wyraziło np. 39,3% studentów w wieku do 26 lat i 12,1% - powyżej 36 lat. Potwierdzać mogą te tendencje, tezę, że wraz z wiekiem maleje zapotrzebowanie na głód bodźców, co prowadzi do zmniejszenia podejmowanych aktów agresji.15
Wraz z wiekiem zwiększał się odsetek studentów deklarujących stosowanie agresji w celu wywalczenia pozycji w pracy (np. 12,9% studentów w wieku do 26 lat i 52,1% - powyżej 36 lat) i wobec współmałżonka (np. 2,9% studentów w wieku do 26 lat i 32,1% - powyżej 36 lat). Budzić to może niepokój. W kontekście agresji wobec współmałżonka dopatrywać się można być może znużenia jego osobą. Na podstawie deklaracji nie można jednak precyzyjnie określić, czy wspomniane akty agresji miały miejsce aktualnie, czy w przeszłości oraz ich częstotliwości.
Nie stosowanie przemocy w największym stopniu zadeklarowali studenci z przedziału wiekowego 27-36 lat (82,3%), a analizując deklaracje w poszczególnych kategoriach wiekowych można stwierdzić, że oni wyrazili optymalne opinie.
Doświadczenie agresji w charakterze ofiary deklarowali głównie respondenci w przedziale wiekowym powyżej 37, wymieniając w największym stopniu przemoc ze strony współmałżonka. Na uwagę zasługuje, że respondenci z tej kategorii wiekowej w największym stopniu deklarowali, że nie byli nigdy ofiarami przemocy. Można więc domniemywać, iż mogli występować w roli agresorów. Mogło to też powstać na skutek konfabulowania rzeczywistości, jej teoretyzowania lub niedostatków metodologicznych użytego narzędzia.16 Wraz z wiekiem zwiększał się odsetek studentów deklarujących doświadczenie agresji ze strony współmałżonka (62,5%), co można tłumaczyć znużeniem osobą współmałżonka lub kryzysów związku. Na uwagę zasługuje, że studenci powyżej 37 lat w dużym odsetku deklarowali doświadczenie agresji w celu wywalczenia pozycji w pracy (62,5%), a jednocześnie w mniejszym stopniu wskazywali na „szefa” jako agresora. Można domniemywać, iż agresorami mogli być współpracownicy.
Badania wykazały, że wraz z wiekiem zwiększał się odsetek studentów deklarujących klapsy (np. 31,6% studentów w wieku do 26 lat i 72,1% - powyżej 36 lat), co można tłumaczyć większym stażem rodzicielskim, co budzi niepokój. Na uwagę zasługuje, że respondenci niezależnie od wieku deklarowali krzyk jako formę dopuszczalną (np. 52,9% studentów w wieku do 26 lat i 56,3% - powyżej 36 lat), choć jego stosowanie dowodzi wysokiej reaktywności i wywołuje szereg negatywnych konsekwencji.17
Analiza wyników badań w zakresie postaw studentów wobec agresji w zależności od kierunku studiów wykazała, że studenci studiujący kierunki techniczne deklarowali pozytywny stosunek do agresji bardziej licznie (10,7%) niż studenci studiujący kierunki humanistyczne (nie wyrażali pozytywnego stosunku). Mogło to być uwarunkowane zdobyciem przez studentów studiujących kierunki humanistyczne wiedzy na temat skutków agresji.
Wyniki badań w zakresie okoliczności usprawiedliwiających stosowanie agresji wykazały, że studenci studiujący kierunki humanistyczne okoliczności usprawiedliwiające stosowanie agresji dostrzegali w największym stopniu w celu wywalczenia pozycji w pracy (57,1%). Znaczna część deklarowała „wobec podwładnych” (32,1%) i „wobec dzieci” (32,1%). Nasuwa się przypuszczenie, iż osoby te dostrzegają iż wykształcenie humanistyczne jest bardziej rozpowszechnione niż techniczne co powoduje inicjowanie walki o utrzymanie, czy zdobycie pozycji społecznej w pracy. Poważny niepokój budzą deklaracje tych respondentów dotyczące okoliczności usprawiedliwiających stosowanie agresji wobec podwładnych (50,0%). Nasuwa się przypuszczenie, iż te osoby gdy osiągną pozycję w zakładzie pracy mogą wobec podwładnych stosować przemoc.
Badania wykazały, że studenci studiujący kierunki techniczne w większym stopniu (53,6%) niż studenci studiujący kierunki humanistyczne mogli nie stosować agresji (25,0%), co potwierdza wcześniejsze przypuszczenia.
Analiza materiału badawczego w zakresie doświadczenia przez studentów agresji wykazała, że respondenci studenci studiujący kierunki techniczne w największym stopniu deklarowali, że nie byli ofiarą przemocy (64,3%). Na uwagę zasługuje jednak fakt, iż niektóre osoby zaliczone do tej kategorii równocześnie wskazywały jakąś formę przemocy, co nasuwa przypuszczenie, że mogli występować w roli agresorów. Studenci studiujący kierunki humanistyczne deklarowali doznanie agresji w celu wzmocnienia doznań seksualnych (42,9%) liczniej niż studenci studiujący kierunki techniczne (12.3%). Ponieważ jednak mniejszy odsetek deklarował doświadczenie agresji ze strony współmałżonka, niż wzmocnienie doznań seksualnych, nasuwa się więc przypuszczenie zdrad małżeńskich lub wskazywania innych niż małżeńskie doświadczeń.
Studenci niezależnie od kierunku studiów deklarowali w przeważającym stopniu „łagodne” formy agresji – klapsy i krzyk (średnio 68,0%). Niepokój mogą budzić deklaracje respondentów studiujących kierunki humanistyczne w zakresie uznania za dopuszczalne wyzwisk, bicia i przypalania (21,4%). Te dwie ostatnie formy agresji nie zostały uznane za dopuszczalne przez respondentów studiujących kierunki techniczne.
Analiza materiału badawczego w zakresie współcześnie dominujących form agresji wykazała, że odtrącenie, poniżenie i bicie w największym stopniu było deklarowane przez studentów studiujących kierunki humanistyczne (śr. po 57,9%), co mogło wynikać ze zdobycia przez studentów wiedzy na ten temat. W przypadku respondentów studiujących kierunki techniczne było to średnio po 16,8%.
Wnioski:
Studenci w przeważającej większości przejawiają negatywny stosunek do agresji;
Kobiety mniej licznie niż mężczyźni deklarują negatywny stosunek do agresji;
Mężczyźni okoliczności usprawiedliwiające stosowanie agresji dostrzegają głównie w manifestacji siły, wobec starszych domowników, wobec zwierząt i wobec podwładnych;
Kobiety okoliczności usprawiedliwiające stosowanie agresji dostrzegają głównie w manifestacji siły i wobec dzieci;
Mężczyźni stosować agresję mogą w większym stopniu niż kobiety w celu wywalczenia pozycji w pracy, wobec podwładnych, współmałżonka i dzieci;
Kobiety wyrażają korzystniejsze z wychowawczo-społecznego punktu widzenia opinie w zakresie stosowania przemocy;
Mężczyźni i kobiety mogli doświadczyć agresji w celu wzmocnienia doznań seksualnych i w celu wywalczenia pozycji w pracy;
Mężczyźni uznają stosowanie wyzwisk za dopuszczalne w większym stopniu niż kobiety;
Młodsi studenci deklarują pozytywny stosunek do agresji bardziej licznie niż studenci ze „starszych” przedziałów wiekowych;
Wraz z wiekiem zmniejsza się odsetek studentów usprawiedliwiających stosowanie agresji w celu manifestacji siły i wywalczenia pozycji w pracy;
Wraz z wiekiem zwiększa się odsetek studentów usprawiedliwiających stosowanie agresji wobec dzieci, współmałżonka i zwierząt;
Studenci powyżej 37 lat w dużym odsetku mogli doświadczyć agresji w roli ofiary w celu wywalczenia pozycji w pracy;

Students' attitude towards agression
Nowadays, the issue of agression and violence is the subject of research of not only psychologists but also educationalists, physiologists and philosophers. The problem is extremely serious due to its universality and negative effects.
It is difficult to define agression. Agression is commonly understood as hostile behaviour, in which doing harm to somebody (damage, pain, material loss etc.) is the main purpose of a person who behaves in such manner.
The term agression comes from Latin, in which the word "aggressia" means "assault", and the word "agresor" means "robber"1.
The following terms are used interchangeably: "hostility", "aggressiveness" or "destructiveness".2
Agression is defined „as action directed against people or objects evoking displeasure or anger in an individual, the aim of agression is doing harm, or damage to the object of agression.”3. It is most often an intended action, whose aim is to do harm, loss or pain to somebody or something 4, resulting from frustration5, frequently taken up intentionally6, which cannot be socially justified”7.
Agression is connected to violence. Behaviour in which agression takes place often ends in the use of physical strength towards another, often innocent person . Violence includes all kinds of ill-treatment . The most frequent forms of violence are: physical abuse, psychological abuse, rape, threats,insults, expelling from one's flat, assaults in the street, forcing someone to take up humiliating actions, forcing to sexual intercourse in the presence of children. 8
Nowadays, increase in agressive behaviours can be noticed. The causes of this can be found in: prolonged frustrations, mental disorders, personality traits, not reconciling with existing reality9, abuse of alcohol10 and others. Agression is currently connected to doing harm to other people, and also increasingly to murder .
The above mentioned elements became an incentive to carry out research, whose aim was to try to diagnose the attitudes of students towards agression and violence. The subject of the research were opinions given by the students .
The issue of the research was included in the question: What attitudes towards agression and violence do students show?
A hypothesis was formulated that the determinants of students' attitudes towards agression and violence are social-demographic factors, especially: gender, age and field of study.
During the research, the method of a diagnostic survey was applied, within which the technique of questionnaire was used. The questionnaire used in the research was published on the Internet.
The research was carried out on the Internet. 153 students were involved in the research, citizens of Poland studying at Polish universities, who completed the published questionnaire. The choice of the sample group was intentional. The condition to qualify to the group was the fact of being a student of any field of study. The research was carried out in January 2009.
The research showed that students, irresspective of their gender, declared a negative attitude towards agression, which is a positive phenomenon. A negative attitude towards agression was declared less by women than by men These tendencies could be conditioned by biological factors, as the mechanism of agression originally served defensive purposes or to obtain food, which was the domain of men.11 These conclusions are confirmed by the students' declarations concerning the circumstances which justify the use of agression. Men saw these mainly in the manifestation of power (91,7%). Also, men in a great extend declared agression towards older family members (41,7%), towards animals (41,7%), as well as towards subordinates (50,0%). These tendencies could be explained by the fact that men do not consider the above mentioned categories as a threat to their safety. Women saw the circumstances justifying the use of agression mainly in the manifestation of power (76,3%) and towards children (76,3%). It can be assumed that the declarations concerning children result from the stereotype functioning in Polish society that the women bear the responsibility of bringing up children, and thus they spend more time with them and consequently react immediatelly to arising situations.12 The declarations concerning manifestation of power are puzzling. Women probably had in mind the power demonstrated by men. The combination of the two dominating alternatives seems disturbing – manifestation of power towards children. The fact that women saw justification of the use of agression in a smaller degree than men, in all categories, may indicate that women are less agressive.
Declarations concerning the use of agression may verify these speculations. The research showed that men declared that they used agression mainly for the purpose of gaining position at work (58,3%), towards subordinates (50%) as well as towards children (41,7%). While the use of agression in order to gain position at work could be explained by biological determinants, the use of agression towards subordinates and children is disturbing. Also, men in a great degree declared the use of agression towards their spouse (33,3%). From the educational-social point of view it can evoke anxiety, but at the same time it is a reflection of a functioning stereotype – man the agressor.13 A positive fact needs to be highlighted here that nearly half of the men (41,7%) declared that they had never used violence.
Women stated opinions which are more beneficial from educational-social point of view. More women than men declared that they had not used violence (55,3%). Also, women declared the use of specific kinds of agression less numerously than men. The exception was the indication of the use of violence to manifest power by a greater percentage of women than men(26,3%).
The analysis of the research results in terms of experiencing violence may lead to further interesting conclusions. The research showed that over a half of respondents, counted in the specific gender category, declared that they had never experienced violence . ,Declarations of the remaining respondents may seem disturbing. Men declared the experience of violence as a victim mainly in order to intensify sexual experience (41,7%) and in order to gain position at work (41,7%). Women mainly named intensification of sexual experience (42,1%). Both the first and the second reason can be explained by biological determinantsof agression, as well as the appearance of a large dose of sadomasochism in sexual relations.14
The analysis of the results of the research in terms of the forms of agression which are regarded as socially acceptable by the students in relation to gender showed that about three fourths of respondents stated that none of them can be accepted, which can be estimated as a positive phenomenon. Students, irrespective of gender, numerously declared spanking and screaming (68,8%) – which means that they accept and probably use agression towards childern, which may be disturbing. Men (41,7%) declared that the use of insults is acceptable more numerously than women (15,2%). These tendencies could be confirmed by the conclusions regarding the functioning of the stereotype, which has already been mentioned.
The research showed that that approximately three thirds of respondents claimed that currently dominating forms of agression are ridiculing and humiliating. It cannot escape our attention that a larger percentage of men than women perceive dominating forms of violence . It seems worrying that so many forms of agression are perceived by the respondents. If we relate these results to previously stated opinions, one can assume that they may occur in the close environment of the respondents and result from their experience.
The analysis of the research material in relation to the students' age showed that younger students from the age bracket to 26 declared a positive attitude towards agression in a greater degree (6,5%) than students from "older'" age brackets (1,2%). This could be conditioned by the wave of agression spreading nowadays, which is mainly a domain of young people.
With age, the percentage of students declaring circumstances justifying the use of agression, such as: manifestatrion of power and gaining position at work, became smaller. Such opinion was stated by e.g. 87,1% of students upto 26 years old and 32,1% - over 36 years old This could result from the fact that respondents noticed a decrease in their own physical condition with age, and prove that agression is symptomatic for younger age categories. Older respondents could have a firm position at work and did not have to take any action in order to gain it. At the same time, the percentage of students declaring circumstances justifying the use of agression towards children increased with age. Such opinion was stated by e.g. 7,1% of students under 26 years old and 82,1% - over 36 years old. It may be assumed that older respondents could have older children, who cause greater educational problems. Thus, they could perceive circumstances that justify the use of violence in this context, or perhaps they may have used it.
the research on the use of violence by students showed that with age tthe percentage of students that declared the use of agression in order to manifest power became smaller . Such opinion was stated by e.g. 39,3% of students in the age under 26 years old and 12,1% - over 36 years old. These tendencies can prove the thesis that the need for stimuli decreases with age, which leads to decreasing of undertaken acts of agression.15
With age, the percentage of students declaring the use of agression in order to gain position at work increased (e.g. 12,9% of students in the age under 26 years old and 52,1% - over 36 years old) and towards their spouse (e.g. 2,9% of students under 26 years old and 32,1% - over 36 years old). This may seem disturbing In the context of agression towards spouse, it is possible to observe fatique with the person. On the basis of the declarations it is not possible to determine precisely if the mentioned acts of violence have currently taken place or in the past, as well as their frequency.
Not using violence was declared in the greatest degree by students from age brackets from 27 to36 years old (82,3%), and after analysing the declarations in specific age categories one can state that they gave optimal opinions.
Experiencing agression as a victim was declared mainly by respondents from the age brackets of over 37, who mentioned violence from their spouse in the greatest degree It should be stressed that the respondents from this age category declared that they had never been victims of violence in the greatest degree . One can assume that they may have been the agressors themselves. This could arise from distorting reality, theorising about it, or methodological deficiencies of the used tool 16 With age, the percentage of students declaring the experience of agression from their spouse increased (62,5%), which could be explained by the fatique with the person, or crisis in relationship . It must be noticed that students over 37 years old declared experiencing agression used in order to gain position at work (62,5%), and at the same time they pointed at their "boss" as the agressor in the smallest degree. One can suppose that co-workers could be the agressors.
The reasearch showed that the percentage of students declaring spanking increased with age (e.g. 31,6% of students in the age under 26 years old and 72,1% - over 36 years old), which can be explained with longer-lasting parenthood, which is a cause for concern. It should be stressed that respondents, irrespective of their age, declared screaming as an acceptable form (e.g. 52,9% of students in the age under 26 years old and 56,3% - over 36 years old), although its use proves high reactivity and triggers a number of negative consequences.17
The analysis of the research results in terms of the students' attitudes towards agression in relation to their field of study showed that students of technical departments declared a positive attitude towards agression in a greater degree (10,7%) than students of humanist departments (they did not express a positive attitude). It could be conditioned by the fact that students of humanist departments gain knowledge on the effects of agression.
Research results on circumstances that justify the use of agression showed that students of humanist departments perceived the circumstances justifying the use of agression in gaining position at work in the greatest degree (57,1%). A large proportion declared agression „towards subordinates” (32,1%) and „towards children” (32,1%). It can be supposed that these people understand that humanist education is more common than technical education, which is the cause of initiating the struggle to keep or gain social position at work. The respondents' declarations on the circumstances that justify the use of agression towards subordinates are a cause for concern (50,0%). It is assumed that these people may use violence towards their subordinates after they gain position at work.
The research showed that from tehcnical departments in a greater extend (53,6%) than students from humanist departments may have not used agression (25,0%), which confirms previous speculations.
The analysis of the research material pertaining to experiencing violence by students showed that the respondents from technical departments in the largest proportion declared that they had not been victims of (64,3%).violence. However, it needs to be stressed that some people included in this category pointed at some form of violence, which could mean that they could have taken the part of agressors. Students from humanist departments declared experiencing violence in order to strengthen sexual experience (42,9%) in a greater degree than students from technical departments (12.3%). However, as a smaller percentage of students declared experiencing violence from their spouse than strengthening sexual experience, it can be assumed that marital infidelity occured, or the students pointed at other experience than with their spouse.
Students, irrespective of their field of study, declared "mild" forms of agression in a great proportion - spanking and shouting (approximately 68,0%). It may be disturbing that students from humanist departments declared insults, beating and burning as acceptable (21,4%). The last two forms of agression were not declared as acceptable by the respondents from technical departments.
The analysis of the research material pertaining to currently dominating forms of agression showed that rejection, humiliating and beating was declared by students of humanist departments in the greatest degree (approximately 57,9%), which could result from the fact that students gained knowledge on the subject. As far as respondents from technical departments are concerned, it was about 16,8%.
Conclusions:
The majority of students manifest a negative attitude towards agression;
Women declare a negative attitude towards agression in a smaller degree than men;
Men perceive circumstaneces that justify the use of agression mainly in the manifestation of power, towards older household members, towards animals and subordinates;
Women perceive the circumstances justifying the use of agression mainly in the manifestation of power and towards children.;
Men can use agression in a greater degree than women in order to gain position at work, towards subordinates, their spouse and children;
Women voice opinions on the use of violence which are more profitable from educational-social point of view ;
Men and women may have experienced agression in order to strengthen sexual experience and to gain position at work;
Men acknowledge the use of insults as acceptable in a larger degree than women;
Younger students declare a positive attitude towards agression in a greater degree than students from "older" age brackets;
With age, the percentage of students declaring circumstances justifying the use of agression in order to manifest power and gaining position at work, becomes smaller;
With age, the percentage of students justifying the use of agression towards children, spouse and animals increases;
A substantial percentage of students over 37 may have experienced agression used in order to gain position at work as victims;
With age, the percentage of students declaring spanking increases;
With age, the percentage of students listing almost all forms of agression increased, which can result from gaining experience;
Students from technical departments have a positive attitude towards agression in a greater degree than students from humanist departments ;
Students from humanist departments justify the use of agression mainly in order to gain position at work and towards subordinates;
Students from technical departments in a greater extend than students from humanist departments may not use violence.
