Does proz vet the training in any way to ensure quality? There's nothing on the link to indicate that proposed training sessions are vetted in any way. | | | Proposed courses are vetted by staff | Jul 29, 2010 |
Dear Paula,
Good question.
Course programs and content submitted by trainers go through a last step of staff review before being published. You can see the step by step process once you start with the creation of a course, for example for videos this is the process: http://www.proz.com/translator-training/trainers/create-course/video

In a future stage, it is planned to put in place a quality control process done by members of the ProZ.com community that are experts in different areas.
Thanks for bringing this up.

In addition to vetting, quality control is happening based on feedback | Jul 30, 2010 |

Sole is perhaps understating her oversight role. Led by Soledad (most recently), ProZ.com has been facilitating trainings for several years. Most of the trainers that have offered training via the site are experienced and known to be good. There is also a vetting process on material, and a feedback element. If a training, or trainer, is unpopular, the cooperation / distribution gets discontinued. So you can have some confidence in the quality of the material.
Of course with new stuff, there is some risk. For now, feedback on the quality of trainings is welcomed via the support channel. (In other words, the "future" process Soledad mentioned is in fact underway, albeit informally.) | | | mediamatrix (X) Local time: 18:36 Spanish to English + ... I'd like to be able to see Step 3 - Prepare Course Materials - before taking step 2. Before becoming a full-time translator, and while being a part-time one, a lot of my work involved the localization of training programs. So... you'd guess it right: I am able to develop a training program from scratch. Have done it over and over.
Therefore I'd like to see the tools and requirements Proz has first, so I won't have to do it all the way with mine, and then have to redo part of it on account of compatibility issues.
Unless I'm mistaken, the only way to see step 3 now is by entering a bogus program, to delete it afterwards, or to have it deleted by Proz QA. The latter should be very easy to do. ▲ Collapse | |

Training demand | Aug 9, 2010 |
I wonder what is the training demand: translating guide for novice, CAT application, translation marketing, linguistic resource etc.?
I expect to provide a training, but I cannot see in Proz forum on how to start training services under step by step advices. Will marketing activity on training necessary?
Best regards,
Soonthon L. | | | You should provide your course title to move on to step 3 | Aug 9, 2010 |
Dear José,
I'd like to be able to see Step 3 - Prepare Course Materials - before taking step 2. Before becoming a full-time translator
You can pass through step 2 to step 3 by just providing the course title - a line will be included to make that clear in that page.
All fields in step 2 "describe your course" have to be filled in before you submit the content for review, but not to move through steps while your course content is under construction. All information you enter, can be later on be edited by you as many times as you want before you submit the content for review.
This is a first release. We are working this week on streamlining the process a bit more and making more resources available to trainers. This kind of feedback is very valuable at this stage. You can reply to here or email me at soledad at proz dot com with any suggestions, questions or requests you may have.
Thanks!

Sessions on translation marketing have always been well received when the presentation addresses the problems freelance translators face and gives tools and guidelines to brand, improve the professional image and increase profit. The webinar format - live online presentations with real time Q&A - is ideal for presenting this type of topic. Creating a webinar is very easy, there's no previous knowledge on e-learning technologies needed - we train you on how to use the software and handle all technical aspects. With webinars you can also receive long term residual income from royalties on the session recording - ProZ.com makes a video out of your presentation and offers it on demand to those that could not attend after the webinar took place. You can start by submitting a proposal here http://www.proz.com/translator-training/trainers/create-course#webinars .
The demand for courses on CAT tools is related to the amount of users with licenses on a CAT tool product out there. Then, naturally, SDL Trados and Wordfast are the most popular. However there is a rising demand for courses on other tools as well. Submit your proposal and we take it from there.
I expect to provide a training, but I cannot see in Proz forum on how to start training services under step by step advices. Will marketing activity on training necessary?
ProZ.com handles promotion, sales, refunds and customer support. You can get started by selecting a training format here: http://www.proz.com/translator-training/trainers/create-course
Hopes this answers your questions. Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

I noticed that scheduled, live courses display exactly who has enrolled already. My self-serve video doesn't have limited seats, so that wouldn't make so much sense.
Yet I'd like to know how many people (not who) browsed the details of it, and how many (again, no need to know who) actually bought it so far. If this info is already there, I couldn't find it. | | | Post removed: This post was hidden by a moderator or staff member for the following reason: Empty post. | Adam Homsi Czech Republic Local time: 22:36 Member (2013) English to Arabic + ... new line of income for your business | Jul 16, 2013 |
