French term

un écrin pour vos passions

French to English Marketing Marketing New audio/video player
I hope you've all got your thinking caps on...

This is taken from a website describing a portable audio/video player, named after a jewel. Obviously there are numerous references to this little gadget's jewel-like qualities, among which is this one, which has me particularly stumped.

"Percez le mystère du [jewel name]

Effleurez sa surface
Un écrin pour vos passions
La pureté du son
Un bijou aux multiples facettes

3OO carats de haute fidélité
Le toucher prend tout son sens
Un simple contact de l’extrémité du doigt modifie la perception des choses, la consistance, l'état des surfaces, la température… "

I think anything approaching a literal translation is going to be very awkward, but something that retains the basic idea might be better. The best I can come up with so far is 'The embodiment of your passions'. Lame.

some ideas to play with

rather jewel, I would think in terms of "gem" - something can be a "little gem"

Delve into the mysteries of XXX
(Just) Run/trail your finger(s) across its surface (Just let your fingers trail...)

The perfect setting/caskett/recipient for the things you love the most
A gem with a multiude of facets

bla bla bla

Just an idea - this might be a bit too dramatic!
Peer comment(s):

neutral muitoprazer (X) : might work if applied to box jewel kept in,but rather a long way down the path of floweriness !

thanks muitoprazer, as I said, just an idea:-)

(beautifully, perfectly) casing in your passions

another go with or without the adverb, the idea being the case of a ring or jewel!
or else, with cae: the best, ideal... case for your passions
would keep passions in fact somehow

a Tiffany setting

another shot at it!

The Tiffany setting (most popular in the US) calls up the later phrase about a multifaceted jewel....
Peer comment(s):

neutral Julie Barber : isn't Tiffany a brand?
5 hrs
yes, but its use has evolved, just like Xerox is a brand but has evolved in usage into a verb
agree Silvia Brandon-Pérez : I would just say, a "setting' for your passions, since setting is also a term used in jewelry, the setting of diamonds, setc.

Is the text originally translated from the Japanese? :-)
Peer comment(s):

agree Jean-Claude Gouin : Also a "jewellery box" and a "jewellery case" ...

take some liberties

Turn it around and take some liberties with a really naff text and make it sound more appealing (? hopefully) to its English speaking audience
ie:

**

A multi-talented diamond!
A perfect outlet for your passions!
Touch its body (and)
Hear the pure sound

**
OK so écrin might be a box, something that 'houses' your passions, yet there is also an element in the text of expressing yourself - which people do with music & video images / gadgets etc. I think it would be totally fair to do a bit of 'revision' on the English and make it sound OK rather than just a cheesy translation....

Other suggestions:

Touch its body
Experience the pure sounds
Express your passions
A real gem!

Or

Touch its body
Experience the pure sounds
A true prism for your passions!
