French term

radion

French to English Tech/Engineering Telecom(munications) security / policing

Have drawn a bit of a blank on this. Not sure if 'radion' is a typo for 'radio' or whether it is short for 'radionavigant' (radio officer, hence an actual person, although I get the impression that this is just referring to a piece of equipment). I suppose it could be some sort of CB radio type thing (?). This is to do with providing security on tobacco farms in Africa where crime is rife. I googled the B.L.U. but drew a blank there... could be a security firm I guess. Am still researching this, but if anyone could help with 'radion' in the meantime, I would be most grateful. Many thanks.

Discussion

ormiston Sep 4, 2010:
the letter 'n' is next to the comma on the keyboard, which could explain the typo!
writeaway Sep 4, 2010:
typo for radio sounds like most likely, given the context. some sort of radiophone

Single side band radio

or SSB radio

BLU means "bande latérale unique" (or single side band) and I suspect that "radion" is indeed a typo.

agree writeaway : so a kind of shortwave radio? /not for nothing I don't touch techy fields :-)

SSB will always be shortwave, but shortwave won't always be SSB
agree Marian Vieyra : didn't see your research before I entered my suggestion!

BLU radio

disagree Jennifer Levey : Asker needs the English term (SSB - which has been provided by other answerers).
