Discussion

Horst Huber (X) Jan 19, 2013:
My hunch is that people here would use different syntax entirely. Do you have what it takes, do I sense that spark in you? Soemthing just a bit out of the box? Asking, do you have ... invites a somewhat uninspiring answer.
philgoddard Jan 18, 2013:
Haha! You're quite right, and I don't think people should be making suggestions until we have some context.
Ramey Rieger (X) Jan 18, 2013:
Hi Phil yes, it does to me, too. But what if it's a job offer for chimney sweeps, smithies, professional fireman/woman?
philgoddard Jan 18, 2013:
It sounds like a job ad to me.
Ramey Rieger (X) Jan 18, 2013:
Hi Elengua! Please provide more context! Why is the question (sind sie gut ausgebildet...?) being asked the first place? What happens when the answer to the question is "yes"? Who is asking? Is something being sold? a job being offered?
David Moore (X) Jan 18, 2013:
Context, elengua, is all-important. You may be looking for something as simple as "are you ready to go?", or something else altogether, like "are you straining at the leash?", but we really cannot be expected to give a sensible answer without even knowing the context, much less the register of the text. Why 'colloquial'?
BrigitteHilgner Jan 18, 2013:
Ohne Kontext kann man da nur raten are you keen/hungry/enthusiastic ...

well-trained and fired up

In the US, this would easily work not only in the sports context...

Example from link below:

"Our coaches are well trained and fired up to take each camper to the next level regardless of ability. "

If that's a job ad, I'd suggest:

"that spark in your eyes"

Example from link below:
"But Perlman is looking for that spark in their eyes and a special facial expression. So it seems that the differentiator when it comes to selecting students is something beyond skills and talent."

Other options:
"drive/passion/hunger/burning desire to succeed"
Peer comment(s):

agree CMFTrier : I was going to suggest "passion to succeed" - especially if it's from a job ad. Didn't want to steal your idea, but I do like it, and it is probably relevant for various fields of work (handy, since we don't have any context for the job ad/ sentence to tr

driven

It's not particularly idiomatic, I admit, but it pops up pretty often in job ads...
(Also possible: with (personal) drive)
