Prêt conventionnel

Le prêt conventionnel nécessite une mise de fonds d’au moins 20 % du coût d’achat de la propriété et les paiements peuvent s’étaler sur une période allant jusqu'à 30 ans.<p>

Prêt assuré

Le prêt assuré est obligatoire si votre mise de fonds représente de 5 % à 20 % du coût d’achat de votre propriété. La période maximale pour rembourser votre prêt est alors de 25 ans.

I agree on the whole with Phil The Termium entry cited appears cogent. The oddness of the French to which Phil points is probably because Canadian French concepts often "print through" from the English, and then take a lot of mulling-over by the OQLF to achieve an authentic French flavour.

Maybe? Sounds like it could be a contraction of something like 'assurances préretraite' - a weird one, though, as Phil says. NB: this is just an eduguess.
