French term

conventionnel

French to English Other Human Resources
Hi,
I am currently translating payslips from New Caledonia for immigration to Australia.
I have the following:
Convention: Commerce et divers
Qualification: AM3 - Niv.4 Ech.2 - Indice 306
Point = 795 soit xxx XPF conventionnel
What do you they mean by "conventionnel" in this instance? "According to the collective agreement"?
Thanks
Joanna

Discussion

Emmanuella Nov 19, 2023:
Conventionnel = conforme à la Convention : Commerce & Divers
Althea Draper Nov 19, 2023:
Example of a payslip with this phrasing here https://www.login.nc/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Bulletin-de-...

Explanation of how 'salaires conventionnels' are calculated here https://www.medef.nc/dossiers/salaires-conventionnels (about a third of the way down the page)

collectively agreed (NC); contractual; Treaty-related

Having met New Caledonians at the FIT / ITF - International Translators' (and Interpreters') Federation Congress in Melbourne, Oz, in 1996 I do verily agree with Collective Agreement, though feel that other feasible meanings ought to be spelt out.

Example sentence:

DTE - Direction du Travail et de l’Emploi Accord professionnel de la branche « Commerces et divers » ... 98849 NOUMÉA CEDEX - TÉL. : (+687) 27.55.72 - WWW . DTENC.GOUV. NC

Professional category

Hello

It's more like "professional category" and it goes far beyond "collective agreement" in that there may not even be an employer, as with freelancers or sole traders for instance.

There may also be "legislation" covering such categories, for example qualifications and tax returns, which go beyond the idea of "collective agreement"

See a French tax return form for landlords for instance.
