residential home Explanation: In Danish, the term institution is shorthand for anytihng from a nursery or kindergarten through any kind of care for young people, adults needing care for health or psychiatric reasons, prisons... right up to old people´s homes. This one is probably a døgninstitution in fact - and not a boarding school (kostskole) chosen and paid for by the parents. Children and young people are sent there by care authorities for a variety of reasons when the parents are unable to provide adequate care. The child may need more care and attention than a family can provide, - whether it is 24-hour nursing or restraint. A 13-year-old arriving in the country unable to speak Dansih would typically be too much for a foster family, and he would be placed in a home where he could learn the language and attend special classes to bring his schooling as far as possible in line with the Danish system. http://www.socialrdg.dk/Default.aspx?ID=3375 ...
