English term or phrase: motion to supress
I have been asked to do some interpreting for a local law firm. I have been able to translate many of the most common terms, but have not been able to find a translation for this term. Any help?

Mocion para suprimir/peticion para suprimer

Explanation:
The term "motion" is what's generally understood in legal terminology. "Mocion para suprimir" is perfectly correct in legal jargon.

Peticion para suprimir la admision de pruebas.

Explanation:
The judge usually has to deal with decisions like these. Some evidence or proof might be accepted whereas the others don't qualify as legal evidence or they might not be relevant to work with.

Pedimento para eliminar pruebas.

Explanation:
This is the translation we use here in Southern California, and the one that is accepted on the State Certification Exam, as per our professor at the Southern California School of Interpretation, Mr. Nestor Wagner, who is himself a practicing certified court interpreter Span/Eng.

Explanation:
It all depends on where you are. If you are translating for a Puerto Rican readership, then mocion de exclusion de pruebas viciadas. It is viciadas because this motion is filed to suppress illegally obtained evidence not just any evidence. For the rest of the countries, you can use peticion instead of mocion. For Mexico and Venezuela, pedimento works. Solicitud also works for Venezuela. Memorial or peticion work for Colombia.

Good luck!
