In Fiji, occurs between sea level and about 475 m in dry seaside areas such as sandy beaches, rocky coasts, and coastal forest, and inland on grass- and reed-covered hills and in open forest. Fire-resistant. Propagation: Seeds, wind- and water-dispersed. Native range: Australia and into Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia; widely cultivated and naturalized in tropical and subtropical regions.
