Roman (or canal) tile Explanation: I have a house with a <<tuile canal>> roof. It's normally translated as "Roman tile", but I've also seen "canal tile". As you probably know, the roof is normally made up of two layers of tiles, the underneath one with the edges of the 'half drainpipe' sticking upwards and the upper layer covering the gap between two underneath tiles with the edges facing downwards. The tiles are tapered from end to end. To save money and time, some roofs are renovated using corrugated sheeting to replace the bottom layer, with the upper layer basically there for decoration. Your Canalite is this bottom layer (and contains asbestos). I could go on... |
