French term or phrase: cet arrêt de travail a été contesté
I'm translating a psychiatric assessment from French to English. I need some help with the phrase "Cet arrêt de travail a été contesté". I guess it means "This leave of absence was disputed". The trouble is that I don't really understand what that means.

The context is that the patient underwent genetic screening and discovered she has a high risk for breast cancer. She became anxious so her geneticist recommended a leave of absence. She took four weeks off work, which was eventually extended to eight weeks.

Here's the paragraph from the report:

"Madame m'explique que son anxiété a été exacerbée par des tests génétiques. [...] Le test de dépistage a été positif ce qui se traduit par un risque à vie de développer une néoplasie du sein ou des ovaires d'environ 70 %. L’anxiété qu’elle a alors présentée a conduit son médecin généticien à recommander un arrêt de travail de quatre semaines, qui s’est prolongé d’une autre période de quatre semaines. Cet arrêt de travail a été contesté. "

English translation:this sick leave was contested
Explanation:
It all rather depends on the exact context!

First of all, 'arrêt de travail' specifically means 'sick leave' — not simply 'leave of absence', which could be for any number of other reasons.

Secondly, we don't know if 'arrêt' here refers to the 'sick note' — the actual piece of paper — or more abstractly to the doctor's decision; it may not make a great deal of difference to the actual translaiton, but it's as well to be aware of the issue, i case it affects the rest.

Thirdly, we don't know by whom it was contested — is it a second medical opinion, for example, or by the employer, say? Or even the Scoail Security office? All these factors might influence the exact way you'll need to translate this.

Note too that 'a été contesté' could mean 'was contested' (perfect > simple past is very common in FR > EN); BUT it could literally be 'has been contested'; again, context should enable you to determine which it is — or if it matters!
