French term or phrase: positionsquatting
Hi

Here's a strange question!

I'm working on something about online trade in counterfeits which mentions "positionsquatting," defined as buying brand names and trademarks as keywords to drive traffic to illicit sites.

So far so good, except that every search for "positionsquatting" on Google takes me to sites that are in some way related to France or translated from French.

Could this be a French term (based on "cybersquatting")?

Is anyone familiar with it in current English usage?

Many thanks!

Thanks very much! I'm going with cybersquatting as positionsquatting just doesn't seem to be a valid English term.

Asker: Thanks - positionsquatting seems to be a form of cybersquatting, but is it actually a bona fide English term?

Asker: Thanks - as I mentioned in the question, the only occurrences of this term appear to be in French, hence why I'm questioning whether it's a bona fide English term.

Asker: Thanks for your help!
