Hi,
"La densité du paquet d'atomes à l'état gazeux est controlé dans cette région de propagation ainsi établie, de manière à éviter que la propagation des rayons X ne s'éteigne."
My translation
The density of the atom packet in the gaseous state is monitored in this thus established propagation area such as to prevent the X-ray propagation from going off.
'Going off' doesn't really sound very good,
switching off?..
Thank you in advance

to avoid extinction of the X-rays
"Extinction" is a suitably "technical" term (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extinction_coefficient), but I would omit "propagation" as unnecessary: how else are X-rays going to get from A to B if not by propagation?

That's a scientific term.. This could be what is meant here...
