Explanation:
Although data may be "consumed" by devices, it is rarely described as such in EN. Rather it is "processed" or "exchanged" during each transaction. I would rephrase the sentence as "70% of data transactions are via Smartphones", or something similar.

agree  Tony M: Yes, though do note it is 'wifi offload accounts for 70% of s/ph data transactions...' / LOL! me too... I have friends whose phones are SO smart, they can do almost anything you can think of... except actually make and receive calls ;-)
