For the latter:
L'amplitude journalière : 12 heures au maximum pouvant être portée à 13 ou 14 heures par dérogation.
Au-delà, un deuxième conducteur est obligatoire.

Explanation:
Train drivers work 35 to 40 hours a week on a shift system. The daily shift length varies between six and 11 hours. Freight and engineering drivers usually work more night shifts. Train drivers are based in the driver's cab in the train.

Explanation:
I'm only posting this as an answer because it was zapped from the discussion box as I agree with your own suggestion. Your first link clearly explains the differences in terms and if you google 'drivers+workday' you get plenty of relevant ghits. I think the point is that the term should be different enough from other 'usual' terms so as not to be confused with 'time spent working'.
