"Avishuset Aftenposten ydet regelmessige matkvoter til sine 1027 ansatte og deres familier". I feel that "newspaper" isn't explicit enough, and I can't find the word in any dictionaries.

That might work pretty well in this context. Literally, it's a newspaper publishing house or maybe publishing firm.

neutral Richard Lawson : I think this is overkill. In the context, "newspaper" does the job, but you might want to qualify for foreign readers, e.g. "the Norwegian national daily newspaper, Aftenposten..."

Depends a bit on the context, but yeah, newspaper probably does do the job - "the Aftenposten newspaper".
