Большое спасибо всем. Варианты интересные. Пришлось консультироваться с носителями языка. "Study visit", по-моему, понятное выражение, поясняющее всю суть, и может использоваться в смысле "стажировка" и студентов, и уже работающих специалистов. И никаких двойных значений, как в случае с "internship". Еще раз большое спасибо всем!!!

По- моему, internship относится больше к медицине, тогда как \"стажировка\" - понятие более широкое. На стажировке могут находится и доярки, и механики. И компьютерные инженеры тоже.

Explanation:
Google дает 1 530 000 результатов по internsip, и не только с американских сайтов. Приводить примеры здесь просто не хватит места. Может быть, это значение и американское, но в международной практике, как правило, американизмы преобладают.

В Москве я работала в международной корпорации со штаб-квартирой в Европе, так там употреблялось internship именно в значении русской "стажировки". И это всегда было за границей, поскольку у фирмы отделения во всех странах мира.
