Discussion

Jessica Agullo (X) Nov 25, 2008:
agree with laurie and patinba lose oneself is better then get lost
Laurie Price Nov 25, 2008:
agree to lose oneself
patinba Nov 25, 2008:
An additional suggestion With regard to the first part of the phrase, rather than "get lost" I would use "to lose oneself in NY..." i.e. "to become deeply absorbed in"

agree Sandra Holt : I was thinking along the lines of "constantly/ever changing". " I like Robert's option of "ever-growing" and "up and coming".

a seething New York

The meaning needs to be that of fermentation - a kind of simultaneous rot and regeneration. But the choice of word must also have poetic resonance and color in this context.
Other choices - stewing, smoldering, festering, or even the more cliche New York 'melting pot'
Peer comment(s):

agree Laurie Price : agree except for "melting pot" as this text is about creative energy, not multiculturalism
