As per the definition below, it means the first three years of residency. If I remember correctly, there is also one year of introductory residency before the main section of the residency begins (Res.læge.introd) "Læger i hoveduddannelsesforløb i almen medicin ansættes som reservelæge. Med virkning fra 01-04-2009 er følgende gældende: Læger i hoveduddannelsesforløb i almen medicin ansættes som reservelæge de første 3 år af uddannelsesforløbet, hvorefter den videre ansættelse sker som 1. reservelæge."
