French term or phrase: apports ponctuels
This term is taken from a text by the Ministry of Ecology, and is describing the various measures in place to reduce harmful chemical substances in water:

"Ces objectifs de réduction sont quantifiés identifiés en pourcentage si les connaissances sur les sources de données sont complètes et fiables, en flux si l'on ne connaît que des apports ponctuels".

if only isolated data is available (not ongoing)
Explanation:
Hello,

I can tell you for one that you aren't going to say "punctuel" here.

apports = another word for "data" (feedback, input)
ponctuels = isolated (not on a regular basis, here and there)

si l'on ne connaît que des apports ponctuels = if only isolated data is available
I hope this helps.

I mean "punctual". LOL.

I really don't think "contribution" is that appropriate. "Apports" is just what data is given to them, or made available. I would really need more context to be sure, though.

neutral  polyglot45: well, you can talk about "input"' but the true problem was "ponctuel", after all

-> Et pourquoi le commentaire alors? LOL. Ponctuel" can be very difficult to translate into English. It can mean a variety of things: one-off, one-time, exceptional, isolated, sporadic, etc. (depending on context). By the way, Happy New Year!
